Special traffic campaign to detect alcohol and drugs while driving (20/09/2019)

The Local Police of Cartagena will carry out from today until September 29 a campaign of surveillance and control of alcohol and drug consumption while driving, in the municipality of Cartagena.

The measure aims to ensure greater awareness of road safety during the celebration of the Carthaginian and Roman festivities, and will be carried out by the Judicial Traffic Police section that will perform various breathalyzer controls on city streets .

The Road Safety Law is very strict regarding the use of narcotic drugs, so it prohibits driving with the presence of drugs in the body, although substances used under optional prescription and for therapeutic purposes are excluded.

From the Local Police, it is recalled that the Criminal Code includes drivers driving under the influence of alcoholic beverages, toxic drugs, narcotics or psychotropic substances, prison sentences of three to six months or a fine of six to twelve months or work for the benefit from the community of thirty-one to ninety days, and, in any case, the deprivation of the right to drive motor vehicles and mopeds for more than one and up to four years.

Alcohol is present as a concurrent or trigger factor in a third of fatal accidents.

Your presence in driving depending on your rate, multiplies the risk of an accident between 2 and 15.
