Campaign Against LGTBIphobia in Carthaginians and Romans (18/09/2019)

The Association of GAys, Lesbians, bisexuals and trans Activists of CarTagena Y COmarca (GALACTYCO Collective) in collaboration with the Federation of Troops and Legions of Carthaginians and Romans presented this campaign this morning;

"He also respects the war. Not LGBTIphobia in Carthaginians and Romans" Both the Carthaginians and Romans Federation and the GALACTYCO Collective intend with this campaign, to promote respect and enjoyment of the holidays for all people.

"As an LGTBI collective we intend to get some LGTBIphobia-free parties, in which everyone can be free to show themselves as they really are, without self-censoring their own behavior, to show affection in public such as kisses, caresses or go hand in hand, without fear of both verbal and physical LGBTIphobic reactions We also consider it important to promote an adequate and non-aggressive and insulting environment towards certain groups, for example avoiding the recurring and jocular use of ridiculous chants such as the "Maricón Scipión", or "queer who does not throw away ", among others, by members of the troops and legions, or the repetition in the camps of songs with LGBTI-phobic lyrics, such as that of the MOLOTOV group," Puto ", not very new with its more than 20 years of life, than in its lyrics explicitly says "Matarile al fagot", issues that have already been criticized on several occasions, even from outside the LGTBI collective, said José María Garc

A of GALACTYCO.

For his part, José Antonio Meca, president of the Federation of Carthaginians and Romans has indicated that "we are aware that many people of the LGTBI collective are direct participants of the parties, and that there are people who may not feel comfortable with these songs and insulting attitudes towards sexual orientation or identity. "

It is not the first time that GALACTYCO and the Federation have carried out a campaign for the Cartagena festivities, and in 2015 both organizations presented "Always at hand, in Carthaginians and Romans", a campaign in which more than 8,000 condoms were distributed and had Aim the prevention of STIs and HIV.

It is fundamental the commitment of the Federation of Troops and Legions and their members to denounce any type of violence and expressions of hatred towards the LGTBI collective in these days whose objective is for everyone to enjoy and have fun with this festival of International Tourist Interest and the History of Cartagena, said the president of GALACTYCO, Alberto Alba.

Alba has highlighted the willingness of the Federation to support this campaign, which aims to achieve and convey that the Fiestas de Carthagineses and Romans are safe and respectful of the LGTBI community.

From the GALACTYCO Collective we have made ourselves completely available to the Federation of Troops and Legions of Carthaginians and Romans to collaborate and advise in relation to any LGBTIphobic attitude that the festeros can detect, has specified.

For the campaign, posters and stickers will be distributed with the slogan "In the war also respect. No to the LGBTIphobia in Carthaginians and Romans", encouraging the festeros to place it in their camps, and at the same time GALACTYCO puts Arrangement of the Troops and Legions rainbow flags in case they are well placed in their camps during the holidays.

The poster has been designed by the Cartagena Javier Rodríguez Tello, collaborator of GALACTYCO Collective.
