Cartagena joins the European Mobility Week with sustainable transport measures (10/09/2019)

With the aim of promoting different transport measures to citizens and introducing alternatives to the use of cars, Cartagena joins the European Mobility Week initiative from next Monday, September 16 to 22, encouraging to choose active modes of transport and combine travel on foot or by bicycle with public transport.

Thus, from the Department of Security, Public Road and Celebrations of the City of Cartagena, an agenda has been developed with initiatives and activities throughout the week under the slogan 'Walk with us!'.

All of them have been presented this Tuesday, September 10 at the City Hall by the hand of the Area Councilor, Juan Pedro Torralba, together with the Infrastructure technician, Matías Yepes, and the ONCE director, Miguel Paraíso, collaborators of the activities.

As main initiatives, the 'Day without cars' will be celebrated on Sunday 22, when access to vehicles to the historic center of Cartagena will be closed, or the project 'On foot to school or by bike' with the dissemination of good practices between parents and Children in the school centers of the municipality on Friday the 20th to favor the fluid traffic in this environment, as well as a diffusion of the benefits of going on foot and by bicycle.

The two main objectives of the European Urban Mobility Commission are to eliminate conventional fuel cars by 2050 and move towards urban logistics without emissions in urban centers by 2030. For this reason, also on Friday 20, the ICUE bus lines of the city will be free, as well as urban transport lines to access the city on Saturday, September 21.

The agenda also includes activities such as the presentation of the LIFE Waste2Biofuel and SUDOE Stop CO2 projects, which aim to eliminate conventional fuel cars and improve energy efficiency at our bus station.

In terms of accessibility, and with the collaboration of ONCE, Local Police and ESPAC, the two activities 'Mobility with White Staff' and 'Accessible Road Safety, facing the remains of a blind person', will be held on Tuesday, September 17.

The mayor recalls in this area that "we are all responsible for ensuring the respect and safety of all road users."

That is why the Mobility Board of the Municipality of Cartagena will also be held on Wednesday the 18th with topics such as safe and accessible infrastructure for all.
