The Mar Menor, the health needs and the Regional Law of Local Financing, keys of the meeting of the mayor of Cartagena with the president of the Assembly (04/09/2019)

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, has held a meeting on the morning of today, Wednesday, September 4, with the president of the Regional Assembly, Alberto Castillo, in which she has reviewed each and every one of the claims and needs of the municipality.

The Mar Menor, the few needs of Area II of Health and the approval of the Regional Law of Local Financing are some of the keys on which this first meeting was based.

“The Regional Assembly approved in March to claim a Draft Law for the Comprehensive Protection of the Mar Menor that has not been carried out.

We have both agreed that our salt lagoon is a responsibility shared by all administrations and that all actions and laws that can contribute to reversing the situation must be prioritized and for this, I have proposed the creation of a commission with all the riverside mayors and the Autonomous Community that evaluates the real impact of these actions, â€said Castejón.

The mayor has also reminded Castillo of the Law, approved in 2016 at the Regional Assembly, fully operational of the Hospital Santa María del Rosell as a general hospital in Cartagena, so she has requested that the creation of the regional parliament be promoted. a commission that monitors compliance with said norm, in which the municipalities of area II and those responsible for the regional government are represented.

“For Cartagena and for all of Health Area II, it is vitally important that the Saint Lucia's portfolio of services be expanded, especially that of Hemodynamics that should be running 24 hours a day.

It is not a whim, it is a real need that we cannot keep postponing, â€he explained.

Local financing and the assumption of improper powers by the municipalities has been another of the highlights of the meeting.

In this sense, the mayor has indicated that “the local administrations are the closest to the citizen and, nevertheless, the ones that have less funding.

In addition, from the City of Cartagena, every year, we spend an average of 14 million euros in competitions that do not correspond to us but that we cannot avoid.

We need a Regional Law on Local Financing that grants an equitable distribution of the regional budget to the municipalities, which starts at 4% and gradually rises to 6% â€.

Likewise, the mayor also reminded the president of the Assembly that the approval of a new Statute of Autonomy opens the possibility of improving financing for the municipality of Cartagena, “which will only be possible if from the Regional Assembly measures are promoted that develop the statute and take into account the singularities of Cartagena â€.
