The UPCT obtains more than 40,000 euros from FECYT to promote technological vocations and innovate (28/08/2019)

The Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology (FECYT), under the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, has once again supported the scientific and technical dissemination actions carried out by the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) in its last call for aid for the promotion of the scientific, technological and innovation culture.

Four projects submitted by the UPCT have been selected in the provisional resolution of this call, which grants them a funding of 43,850 euros.

The initiative that has raised more funds, 18,000 euros, is the annual program of activities of the Unit of Scientific Culture and Innovation (UCC + i) of the Polytechnic of Cartagena, which is part of the network of these units that coordinates FECYT.

The UCC + i of the UPCT, which coordinates José Luis Serrano and depends on the Vice-Rectorate for Research, organizes the Engineering Campus and coordinates the Polytechnic workshops at the Week of Science and Technology of Murcia, in addition to promoting other initiatives of dissemination as I want to be an engineer or the circuit of workshops in libraries of Cartagena Ingenioteca.

Another project of the UCC + i of Polytechnic of Cartagena is Ingeniosanos, a series of workshops of scientific and technical dissemination in the hospital classrooms of the Region of Murcia, has also received 5,150 euros of funding from FECYT.

The UPCT also coordinates for years a congress of pre-university researchers of the three public institutes of Cartagena that teach the Baccalaureate of Research and whose acronym is SIMIP.

This year the event will be monographic on sustainability and circular economy, developing the Marine Waste project in the Murcian Coast that also finances FECYT with 15,000 euros.

Collection of samples in the field, use of solutions to separate plastics, infrared analysis and presentation of the results in a congress, this is the project that.

Students from institutes in San Javier and Cartagena have carried out experimentally in recent courses reproducing the scientific method in full, by the hand of the UPCT, to determine the presence of microplastics in the regional coast.

In addition, FECYT has also supported with 5,700 euros the Handy-blog project with which researchers from the Electronic Technology area of ​​the UPCT have begun to design and manufacture with 3D printers devices for sensory rehabilitation and stimulation in collaboration with ASTUS (Tutelar Association of the Person with Disability).
