The Muslim community of Cartagena celebrates the prayer of the Feast of the Lamb (12/08/2019)

Representatives and faithful of various mosques in Cartagena organized this Sunday, August 11, with the collaboration of the City of Cartagena, the traditional prayer of the Feast of the Lamb.

It is a date, together with Ramadan, very marked for Muslims, since it coincides with the end of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca.

This holiday and the rites to celebrate the traditional prayer are held annually and are part of the Hajj, the great pilgrimage to Mecca - one of the five pillars of Islam - that must be performed once in a lifetime for those who have the possibility to perform it.

Muslims who do not make the pilgrimage to Mecca celebrate the Festival in their places of residence, an act that is usually held outdoors, in an open area called Musalla.

In Cartagena, this year they have taken place at the Club Deportivo Mediterráneo and in El Algar, where around 1,500 faithful of this religion gathered early in the morning to pray, as the Islamic religion marks.

Sharing traditions

Every year, on the tenth day of the month Zul - Hiyya, Muslims around the world celebrate Eid Al Adha, also called 'Celebration of Sacrifice' and Eid - al Kebir, known as 'Feast of the Lamb', where traditionally, families They meet to eat together, exchange visits and share the lamb with the most disadvantaged people.

On this day, Muslims sacrifice a lamb in remembrance of Abraham, a character from the Koran, who was willing to sacrifice his firstborn son Ishmael as proof of his loyalty to There.

This celebration motivates to make a Muslim more virtuous in his actions.

Not only to make offerings, but also to learn lessons such as the liberation of selfish desires and anything that hinders the ability to fulfill the responsibilities of every Muslim.
