The municipal government unblocks the project of the Amphitheater and hires the excavation of the "Phase 2" (19/07/2019)

The municipal government has contracted the basic project and execution of Phase 2 of the Roman Amphitheater after having obtained the definitive approval of the General Directorate of Cultural Assets to the last drafting of the Master Plan, which has been unblocked thanks to the correction of the deficiencies detected in the initial document, as reported today by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón.

The councilor has valued the coordinated work developed by municipal and regional technicians to give a definitive boost to the project in just two weeks.

"This work puts us in a position to resume excavations in the Roman Amphitheater before the end of the year."

Castejón recalled that the participation of the three administrations allows Cartagena "now has a master plan that tells us how to deal with the whole project of the amphitheater, an excavation project already contracted to address phase 2 and a financing of 400,000 euros with 1.5% cultural charge. "

A PLAN FOR THE AMPHITHEATER AND ITS ENVIRONMENT

It is necessary to remember that the Master Plan of recovery of the Amphitheater, prepared by a multidisciplinary team formed by the architects: Amann, Cánovas and Maruri, of the company Temperaturas Extremas Arquitectos SLP, together with the archaeologist Francisco Fernández Matallana, technical director of the excavations of the Amphitheater Roman, and with the advice of Mari Carmen Berrocal, Coordinator of Historical and Archaeological Heritage of the City Council, who is also the scientific director of the Amphitheater Project, was delivered at the end of 2018.

The document also includes actions for the public, cultural and tourist use of the amphitheater, the interior of the double wall of the Plaza de Toros and the Autopsy Pavilion, as well as the construction of open spaces such as the esplanade, the construction of complementary buildings for use civic-cultural and the adaptation of the walls of the Plaza de Toros.

In addition, the last phases of the plan contemplate alternatives to the problem of parking in the area of ​​the University, analyzing the possibility of building an underground parking or the creation of a parking deterrent in the urban limits close to this area.
