Young people from all over Spain participate as volunteers in the work camp of the Roman Amphitheater (18/07/2019)

Twenty-five young people, aged between 18 and 30, from all over Spain such as León, Oviedo, Granada, Toledo, the Canary Islands, Valladolid or Segovia, are participating until July 26 in the field of youth volunteering 'Baja a la arena and touch the story.

Recovery and promotion of the archaeological heritage of the city of Cartagena.

The Roman Amphitheater is the chosen place where this field of work is being carried out.

The field of volunteering is organized by the Department of Youth of the City of Cartagena and the General Directorate of Youth of the Autonomous Community of Murcia and has the support of the Department of Archaeological Heritage of the City of Cartagena.

Although the theme of the youth volunteer fields is very varied, in the case of Cartagena, for the third consecutive year, it has been oriented towards the archaeological heritage.

In total, 300 young people will participate during the summer in different fields of work, spread throughout the region.

This morning, June 18, the young people have received the visit of the Councilor for Youth, David Martinez and the general director of Youth of the Region of Murcia, Francisco Sánchez.

The mayor of Youth, David Martinez, said that "the Roman Amphitheater is a jewel of the city, therefore, the work of young people is important to help archaeologists in the excavation work of this archaeological site."

The young people will collaborate during the mornings, from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., in the cataloging and inventory of archaeological materials and in the manual cleaning of structures belonging to the Roman Amphitheater, with greater care, in the cleaning of andesite ashlars. of the opus vitatum of the service rooms.

As a complement to these tasks, they will be able to enjoy a wide range of aquatic, recreational and cultural activities, as well as other sports-adventure modalities.

The mayor of Youth has said that "after visiting the Palace Hall on Tuesday, among other things, make a tour of the port on a tourist boat."

PROFILE OF YOUNG PEOPLE

Although, the volunteer camps are intended for young people between 18 and 30 years, this year as a novelty, have been able to participate under age, from 14 years.

The general director of Youth of the Region of Murcia, Francisco Sanchez, has pointed out that "there is no defined profile, since the majority of young people who participate in these fields are from studies and training completely different from History, such as Journalism , Medicine or Nursing ".

A young Canary, Jorge Manrero, 19, who studies Computer Science, stressed that "this field was reported thanks to the page of the Cabildo de Las Palmas".

Another young woman, coming from a town in Seville, Teresa Aguilar, who studies Education, has explained that she recommends doing this activity because "you meet new people, perform different tasks to your training and discover places you have visited us."

Young people have to pay to attend the volunteer camps around 80 and 120 euros, which includes travel, accommodation, maintenance and all the necessary materials to carry out their work.
