Local Police and Firemen reinforce their forces for the Night of San Juan (20/06/2019)

The Government Area of Public Safety, Public Roads and Celebrations, directed by councilor Juan Pedro Torralba, has the operation ready that will be launched during the evening of next Sunday, June 23, in which traditional bonfires are held de San Juan.

COUPLES IN CONFLICTIVE POINTS AND STEERING UNIT

The Local Police has prepared a special device, outside the ordinary service, with fixed presence of couples in trouble spots and a flying unit of agents to attend any type of incident, in collaboration with the National Police and Civil Guard.

The operation will be activated in the afternoon on Sunday, monitoring inappropriate behavior especially of young people and minors.

For this purpose, the pyrotechnic material not approved for their age that is carried by minors will be seized, and those who perform acts of vandalism, such as throwing firecrackers or wheelbarrows at other people or in urban areas or furniture that may cause arson, will be identified.

In previous years the most conflictive areas have been those of La Vaguada, Polígono de Santa Ana and Los Urrutias.

The headquarters of the Local Police has held meetings to coordinate the troops in these areas;

For example, in the Polígono de Santa Ana, a meeting was held with the conservation entity to define the collaboration that the security service of the urbanization itself will provide.

During these days the Local Police has inspected the premises where pyrotechnic products are sold to verify that they comply with current legislation and reporting to the Firemen of the bonfire sites that have begun to be installed in the city, neighborhoods and county councils.

From the Local Police it is recommended to parents that they prevent their minor children from buying or playing alone with firecrackers, bombs, rockets or wheelbarrows.

It is advisable to protect the ears of children, by placing them plugs.

Also keep in mind that artifacts handled with fire can cause fires in the place, even from a distance.

Finally, it is advisable to keep the pets in a closed and comfortable place since the noise of the explosions can alter them.

FIREFIGHTERS WILL INSPECT AND REMOVE BONFIRE

On the other hand, the Fire Fighting, Salvage and Civil Protection Service will also reinforce its troops during the weekend, to inspect on Saturday and Sunday about fifty locations of bonfires throughout the municipality, whose installation is usual every year and they have been communicated by the Local Police.

On Sunday, aided by a truck and a shovel from the Infrastructure brigade, they will proceed with the withdrawal or reduction of those involving risks.

In the afternoon, the usual firefighting service will be reinforced with one more exit and another one with a catch, to be able to deal with the fires that can be registered, by bonfires or the launching of pyrotechnic elements.

In this sense it is remembered that the bonfires should not be installed on cobblestone or paved streets.

If a municipal permit is obtained exceptionally, it will be necessary to spread a layer of sand under the fire with a minimum thickness of 10 centimeters and a radius of 2 meters greater than the same.

The proper fire should measure a maximum of 4 meters in height.

Fire should not be ignited with flammable liquids.

Do not throw drums or sprays to avoid the risk of explosion.

To protect the environment, tires and plastics should not be burned, since their burning can cause high levels of pollution in the atmosphere.

For proper shutdown, the fires should be turned off with water or earth.

It is convenient to make sure that the fire can not expand or rekindle.

The firemen have also remembered a series of guidelines for the correct use of firecrackers and rockets, such as not putting them near the face or body, not throwing them at anyone, or introducing them in bricks or bottles.

In the event that a burn is suffered, it is necessary to apply fresh water for 2 or 3 minutes in the affected area, cover it with gauze or a clean cloth and go to a health center.

From Civil Protection, ensure that it is important not to apply ointments or creams and not to remove the remains of clothing that may have been stuck to the burned part.

In case of emergency, the regional emergency service 112 telephone is available.
