The first Polytechnic Engineering Girl campus shows pre-university students how to create motorcycles, buildings, a microscope and a 'smart home' (17/06/2019)

How do you hack a commercial Internet device of things like those already in many houses to automate processes?

With this practice of cybersecurity have begun their week of engineering training students who are doing the itinerary of the School of Telecommunications of the UPCT in the first edition of the campus Engineering Girl, the last phase of the project I want to be an engineer.

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT) is going to train 115 Secondary and Baccalaureate students from different institutes throughout the Region this week, as a culmination to the initiative, promoted by the Ministry of Equality and supported by the Ministry of Education, with the which is promoting Engineering and Architecture studies among young people.

The students will carry out five different initiation programs to the I + D + i and on Friday they will show the results of their practices in the schools of Industrial Engineering, Telecommunications, Roads and Mines, Architecture and Building and with the Support Service to Technological Research (SAIT).

"They will work in small groups, so that they can make the most of the experience to know what an engineer's job really is," explains the coordinator of the Science and Innovation Culture Unit of the UPCT, José Luis Serrano.

At the Industrial School students will learn how to design and manufacture a motorcycle, starting with 3D modeling and calculating mechanical transmissions, going through a wind tunnel to check the aerodynamics of the vehicle and welding and mechanical manufacturing laboratories. UPCT.

Finally, the students will go to the electronic and motor test bench that the Polytechnic has in the Fuente Álamo Technology Park.

In Telecommunications, the storyline of the practice will be centered on the technological revolution that represents the Internet of things.

Once they know how the devices are for sale, the young women will learn how to orchestrate various network devices and design and build their own, so they will be able to create a 'smart home' model with different smart gadgets.

During the week you will also enjoy virtual reality exhibitions, a talk about virtual currencies and a cinemorum with one of the disturbing chapters of Black Mirror.

At Caminos y Minas you will receive a global view of the UPCT school's studies, starting with a workshop for building slabs, followed by virtual applications for Mining Engineering, mineral studies in the laboratory and visits to the Escombreras desanilizadora and to the deposits of the Commonwealth of Canales del Taibilla.

In Architecture, the students will fully develop the ideation, creativity, prototyping and manufacturing of a space that will be used during the final ceremony of the campus, which is celebrated on Friday.

While the group assigned to SAIT will know how to mount a microscope, what is thermography and high-speed recording, 3D design and printing and holography.
