The bells of Santa María de Gracia return to their place once restored (14/06/2019)

This Friday, June 14, the three restored bells of the Church of Santa María de Gracia have been installed, which have received an antioxidant treatment to favor their conservation in the open because of their longevity and have been provided with a yoke for can be touched.

Its restorer, Francesc Llop i Bayó, affirms that the bells were covered "by a thick layer of dirt fruit of the centuries and of the proximity to the sea, that made that they sounded worse".

In addition, he affirms that, with the sound of bells, "you will be listening to the music that played in Cartagena for centuries".

Since last June 11, citizens have been able to see these three bells displayed in front of the main door of the temple located on Calle del Aire.

After eight months of restoration, this is the next phase of the works.

The renovation of the bells is included within the restoration of the facades of the streets of Aire and San Miguel of this emblematic church, the oldest parish in the city and from which the Holy Week processions leave.

The City of Cartagena participates in this action through an agreement signed by the acting mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, with the Bishopric, for which the consistory contributes a third of the total cost, that is, 300 thousand euros.

The vicar of the Diocese of Cartagena, José Abellán, hopes that the works will be completed in December 2019.
