Agri-food cooperatives are aware of the importance of training to improve skills and attract talent (14/06/2019)

Researchers from the Polytechnic Universities of Cartagena, Murcia and Almeria have published with the Cátedra Cajamar-UPCT the monograph 'The commitment to talent in agri-food cooperatives.

Training as a lever for growth ', which includes the results of a study on the training needs of these unique companies, made with the information provided by their managers and managers.

"Agri-food cooperatives are aware of the importance of training", summarizes the person in charge of the chair, Narciso Arcas, who stresses the need to improve the skills of human capital in "an environment of permanent change and demanding markets".

The training "is an investment to attract talent," he adds, listing the positive effects of this practice, such as increasing staff commitment, reducing work accidents, improving service, using new technologies more effectively, and ultimately instance, the improvement of productivity and competitiveness.

The study was based on interviews with a dozen heads of large cooperatives and collected data through a questionnaire answered by managers and managers of almost two hundred agri-food cooperatives.

The training topics that arouse the greatest interest differ among the different groups: partners, managers and members of the governing council.

The partners prioritize training in cultivation techniques, business management of their farms, quality and food safety;

Managers in cost control, grant management and accounting and financial management;

and the members of the governing council on corporate governance, strategic direction and social responsibility.

The results also indicate that the training required by cooperatives must be delivered intensively and between campaigns, by external experts, in the cooperative and adapted to the productive sector of the entity.

The work, carried out with the financial and technical support of the Cátedra Cajamar-UPCT, has received financial support from the General Directorate of Labor Relations and Social Economy of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia, and with the technical collaboration of Cooperatives Agro-Alimentary of Spain.
