Cs will conduct audits to improve road safety in school environments and reduce the risk of accidents and accidents (18/05/2019)

Citizens will conduct audits to verify the road safety conditions that affect the school environment in Cartagena and that will serve to calculate the investment plan necessary to reduce the risk of accidents and abuses with school children involved and improve traffic.

It has been a constant battle horse of the liberal party during this term, "associations of parents, driving schools, neighborhood groups have been in contact with us since 2015 to promote a special road safety plan in schools and colleges of Cartagena" , has explained the spokesman of Cs, Manuel Padín, that recriminates to the Government of MC and PSOE his indifference and inaction during the last four years, "in spite of our demands and proposals in plenary sessions".

The audits that the liberal party will launch will be carried out by impartial, independent auditors with respect to the City Council and qualified, in collaboration with educational centers, parents 'and students' associations, driving schools located in Cartagena, and Local Police.

The audit will include an interdisciplinary Technical Commission and in the phase of responses and solutions will also include a model of safe school path, an initiative to promote and offer children a safe route and an autonomous way to get to school.

This special plan in schools will be the starting signal for a comprehensive road safety plan that will act, in a progressive and priority manner, throughout the municipality of Cartagena.

Since 2015, Ciudadanos has denounced the poor road conditions of access to schools and institutes, and in many streets and junctions in the city, neighborhoods and councils: narrow sidewalks, pedestrian crossings, crossings with poor visibility, scarce parking, serious alterations of the normal flow of traffic that generate clusters in the hours of entry and exit, lack of vertical and horizontal signaling, pavements in poor condition, or invasions of sidewalks.

Although it even managed to get an agreement in the Plenary to initiate a road safety plan, the City Council never started its drafting.

Pedestrian and Bicycle Office

Recovering the deteriorated bicycle lanes of the municipality, and increasing its kilometers, has been and is one of the great objectives of Citizens in its government action program.

The liberal party plans to gradually close the urban belt of bike lanes, if possible with a homogeneous structure, something pending for more than 15 years and which is now composed of unconnected sections and in poor condition.

"We are going to ensure that the 2019 budget includes the closure projects (Captains Ripoll-Ronda Ciudad de La Union and Wsell pavilion of Guimbarda-Alameda) but also a sufficient amount to start the first phase of recovery of our cycle routes ( bike lane, protected bike lane, track-bike, sidewalk-bike, and cyclable paths), "announced today Manuel Padín.

In addition, Citizens will develop a true Municipal Cyclist Mobility Master Plan in collaboration with the main collectives, campaigns to promote the use of the bike to go to work or school, recover the Bicity service, and launch the Pedestrian Office and the Bicycle, "in September 2016, the Plenary unanimously approved this body, but the PSOE and MC parties never made it a reality;

we will make it possible. "

The Office of the Pedestrian and Bicycle has been operating for several years in Zaragoza, Barcelona, Madrid or Murcia, "how easy it would have been to request in 2016 to the City Council of the neighboring city a report on the organization and budget of this municipal structure and put on going;

we have lost a lot of time ", laments Manuel Padín.
