Carmen Conde's "Poetry before Time and Immortality" resounds in Cartagena for the 40th anniversary of the entry into the RAE (09/05/2019)

In 1978, the year in which she would be 71 years old, Carmen Conde is elected Academic Number of the Royal Spanish Academy, becoming the first woman to enter this institution.

It was on February 9 when, after the votes of the 32 academics, it was elected, imposing itself on the other two candidates: Rosa Chacel and Carmen Guirao.

He would occupy the K chair, which Miguel Mihura had vacated.

On January 28, 1979, he took possession pronouncing his entry speech, entitled 'Poetry before time and immortality', which was answered on behalf of the corporation by Guillermo Díaz-Plaja.

As Alonso Zamora Vicente pointed out in his "Historia de la Real Académica Española", "thus breaking the fire and jumping the barriers", since since the foundation of this one in 1713, no woman had been elected.

To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the entry of the Cartagena writer in the RAE, the City of Cartagena, through the Department of Culture, in collaboration with the Board of Carmen Conde-Antonio Oliver and the New Theater Circus have scheduled a series of activities such as, a literary journey, a recital of poetry, the concert of Paco Ibáñez or several round tables on the figure of the writer of the poems 'Brocal', 'While men die', 'Jubilation' or 'Poems to Mary' .

The most outstanding act has been the rereading of the speech that Carmen Conde pronounced at the inauguration as an academic.

This has taken place in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento before the Town Hall.

The reading has been made by 10 writers from the Region of Murcia: María Teresa Cervantes Gutiérrez, Mariangeles Ibernón Valero, Nadia Kostadinova, Carmen Pérez Ballesteros, Julia Moreno, Marisa López Soria, Cristina Morano, Jeannine Alcaraz, Rosa Raya Carrasco and Natalia Carbajosa.

This activity has counted with the mayor of Culture, David Martinez, and the councilors of the municipal corporation, Ricardo Segado, Pilar Marcos and Manuel Padín.

The Poet Antonio Oliver School has joined this tribute and have carried out a series of activities such as, a children's music recital, a poetry workshop.

In addition, a literary tour has been organized by the Board of Carmen Conde-Antonio Oliver.

In the Culture Classroom of the Caja Murcia Foundation, there will be two round tables, at 7:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m.

The first will be about 'The legacy of Carmen Conde' in which they will intervene Marta López Vilar, poet and researcher (Madrid) Pepa Merlo, philologist and writer (Granada), Pedro Guerrero, poet and professor of the UMU (Murcia) and Ignacio F Garmendia, Editorial Director Col. Vandalia (Sevilla).

The second, 'A poet in the Academy', will be about the stay of Carmen Conde in the RAE, which will be attended by Oscar López, director of the television program 'Page 2'.

There will be writers who know the figure and works of Carmen Conde, such as María Victoria Martín González, philologist and writer (Murcia), Jose Luis Ferris, writer and professor UMH (Alicante) and Pere Gimferrer, poet and academic (Barcelona) .

In addition, in October, a series of activities will be carried out to bring the figure of this writer closer to the people of Cartagena and those attending the events.
