The Councilor for the Environment informs about the actions carried out by the hydrocarbon rainwater discharges to the Rambla de Escombreras (02/05/2019)

The Councilor for the Environment of the City of Cartagena, Manuel Mora, held this morning, May 2, a meeting with the spokespersons of the rest of the municipal groups to explain the details of the technical report prepared by the City Council workers, in relation to the discharge of rainwater with hydrocarbons to the Rambla de Escombreras, which occurred on 19 and 20 of last April.

As the mayor has indicated, "from the moment we learned of the incident, local police officers and technicians from the Environment area traveled to the area to study the extent of the spill and document it, and then send it to the competent organisms ".

The report also shows that, after having submitted the file prepared by the City Council, studies have been requested on this episode, both to the Segura Hydrographic Confederation and to the general directorates of Industry and Environment, belonging to the Autonomous Community, to know the scope that this spill could have in the bed of the Rambla and in the mouth of the Escombreras dock.

"Once we have the reports with the inquiries that have made these administrations we will know if it was an error or a failure of the company itself and if we must take measures beyond an administrative file," Mora has concluded.
