The Mandarache Prize and the collective Atrapavientos organize a massive exchange of books in Cartagena (02/05/2019)

On May 7 and 8, on the occasion of the Mandarache and Hache Awards gala to be held that Wednesday at the El Batel Auditorium, Cartagena is going to organize a great literary invisible friend from the Zaragoza collective Atrapavientos, joining as well as other cities such as Barcelona, Logroño, Valladolid or Tres Cantos.

«Books That Matter» is an action to promote reading that consists of a massive exchange of books.

The proposal is that each person who wishes to participate look for a book among their memories that has a special meaning and whose reading will mark it, dedicate it to an anonymous reader explaining the reasons why it is special and deliver it wrapped for a gift in the booth of MANDARACHE-BOOKS THAT MATTER that on May 7 and 8 there will be in the Plaza del Icue.

In return that person will receive another book that matters from another anonymous reader.

The schedule for the exchange is from 10am to 2pm and from 5pm to 8:30 pm, although on the morning of the 8th the exchange point will be moved to the El Batel Auditorium, where the Mandarache and Hache Awards ceremony will take place. 2019

Besides the citizenship that approaches those days to the booth, the Mandarache Prize has invited some special characters related to the world of literature and culture to participate in the initiative, also so that their involvement serves as a so-called effect.

Thus, in addition to the winners of the Mandarache and Hache 2019 Awards, Paco Roca and Fernando Lalana, other prominent local figures have confirmed their participation: like the painters Ángel Mateo Charris, Gonzalo Sicre and Antonio Gómez Ribelles;

also the local and regional writers Diego Sánchez Aguilar, Juan de Dios García, José Alcaraz, Antonio Marín Albalate, Natalia Carbajosa and Vega Cerezo;

as well as the artist José Manuel Puebla, the director of the FICC Esther Baeza or the photographer Juan Manuel Díaz Burgos.

«Books That Matter» was born in Zaragoza in 2016 and since then, thanks to this initiative, thousands of "significant" books have been exchanged among anonymous readers.

This year, thanks to a grant from the Ministry of Culture, the collective Atrapavientos is exporting this idea to other cities and from the beginning it was clear that Cartagena and the Mandarache Prize had to participate.
