The X Days of Historical Memory host the exhibition "The photographer of horror" (02/05/2019)

This Friday, May 3, at 7:30 pm at Palacio Molina, the exhibition 'The photographer of horror' is inaugurated within the framework of the programming of the X Days of Historical Memory organized by the Historical Memory Association of Cartagena in collaboration with the Cartagena Think program of the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena.

This inauguration will feature the presentation of Pepa Martínez, president of the Historical Memory Association of Cartagena and the inaugural lecture by Benito Bermejo, curator of the exhibition, who will later guide a visit through it.

"The photographer of horror" collects the story of Francisco Boix and photos stolen from the SS of Mauthausen, an exhibition of which is commissioner Benito Bermejo, author of a book with the same title.

Francisco Boix, like another 7,200 compatriots who found their bones in those death camps, saved his life because he was one of Mauthausen's photographers, which allowed him not only to make his own photos of the horror of that field, but he was able to hide photos of the SS themselves, material that was fundamental later in the Nuremberg trials.

The exhibition has an undeniable historical interest and denunciation and comes to complete the recognition of the suffering of so many victims of Nazism that in February was carried out by the municipal authorities with the inauguration of the monument in their honor. It was located at the confluence of Ronda and Carlos III streets of our city.

Benito Bermejo has worked as a researcher and scriptwriter in more than a dozen audiovisuals on historical topics, especially those related to the Spanish exile of 1939 and the deportation of Spaniards to Nazi camps, subjects on which he has published several works and two monographs.

Since 2005 he participates in an international network of work on databases of the victims of the Nazi concentration system, being currently a member of the Scientific Council of the Memorial of Rivesaltes (France).
