20 Vela Latina regattas will give color and excitement during the year to the Cartagena coast (24/04/2019)

The tests also coincide with the V Centennial of the first round the world |

This Sunday, April 28 starts the 2019 season of Vela Latina category 21 palmos organized by the Nautical Club of Santa Lucia.

Until October 13, there will be a total of 20 events in which 12 boats will participate.

These sporting events have the collaboration of the Department of Sports of the City of Cartagena.

The Carabela de Plata Regularity Championship celebrates 30 years.

The V Centennial of the first round the world will also be commemorated.

In the presentation of the calendar this Wednesday April 24 have been: the Councilor for Sports of Cartagena, Manuel Mora, the president of the Sailing Federation of the Region of Murcia Arturo García Pallarés, the president of the Nautical Club Santa Lucía Diego F. Varela Formoso, the vocalist of Vela Latina and Clásica Emilio Gil Pagán and the vocal of Vela of the Nautical Club Santa Lucía Javier Martínez Hurtado.

The councilman of Sports of the City of Cartagena, Manuel Mora, recalled that the Sail is a sport that is part of the history of the city.

In addition, it has indicated that it is an Asset of Intangible Cultural Interest since January 2018. "For 20 days, we will have the opportunity to approach this impressive spectacle, this sport that brings to all visitors and that has more and more followers".

The mayor of Sports has encouraged the Cartagena to attend these regattas during the year.

The sailing schedule of Vela Latina category 21 palmos begins this Sunday, April 28, with the Perico El Feo Memorial Opening Trophy.

In May, on the 4th, the Cruces de Mayo Memorial Colao Trophy will be celebrated, on the 12th the CAES Trophy will be held, on the 18th the APC-Santiago and on the 25th the Collados Sport Trophy.

June will be the month of greatest competitive intensity, since there will be up to 5 tests.

On June 1st the Alberto Martínez Memorial Trophy will be celebrated, on the 8th the CARM Trophy will be played, on the 15th it will be the El Cuqui Pª I Memorial Trophy, on the 22nd it will be the turn of the Galactic Collective Trophy and on June 29th, Estrella de Levante Trophy.

Julio will have 4 races.

The 6th will be the El Cuqui Pª II Memorial, the 13th Hermanos Martínez Guillamón Trophy, and the 20 and 21 Varadero I and II Trophies.

In September, on the 15th the President Trophy will be disputed, on the 21st the David López Hurtado Memorial and on September 27th, it will be the Carthaginians and Romans Trophy, in full local festivities.

October will be the last month of competition with three regattas: the 5th will be the Tu Chester Trophy, and on the 12th and 13th the I and II tests of the Spanish Armada Trophy will be held.

This last appointment will serve as a tribute to the V centenary of the first round the world.

According to the president of the Santa Lucía Nautical Club Diego Varela Formoso, the best places to witness these tests from the ground are: the Curra dock, the Christmas lighthouse and the Escala Real, located in the Port of Cartagena.
