The renewal of this agreement represents another step in the commitment that the different administrations, technicians and citizens are making to improve intercultural coexistence and social cohesion.

All the actions carried out in this sense are framed in the Intercultural Community Intervention Project (ICI) promoted by the 'la Caixa' Welfare Projects and developed by the Cartagena City Council and the Cepaim Foundation.

The ICI Project is born from the need to face a new reality that, with the migratory movements of our society, make cities increasingly diverse.

As a result of this phenomenon, territories with high cultural diversity were selected to work specifically on the integration of the social fabric at the neighborhood level.

The objectives of the ICI Project are to improve the living conditions in the neighborhood, train local actors to face autonomously the challenges of coexistence and prevent conflict situations.

In the institutional act developed, the main information, conclusions and challenges related to the evolution of the Community Process developed in the Historical Center and Sector Station of Cartagena have been shared, supporting and endorsing the community process and strategy that is being implemented.

The event took place at the Town Hall and was attended by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, the Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García, the deputy general director of the 'la Caixa' Banking Foundation, Marc Simón, director of the Interculturality and Social Cohesion Program of the Banking Foundation 'la Caixa', Francesc Ventura, the director of the Business Area of Caixabank in Cartagena, Carlos Melero, Obra Social of Fundación Bancaria 'la Caixa', Lourdes Toribio, the general director of the Cepaim Foundation, Juan Antonio Segura, the rector of the UPCT, Alejandro Díaz, the general secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Culture CARM, María Casaljús, the president of the Neighborhood Association of the Estación Station, Fulgencio Sánchez, the the Company of Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul, Sr. Antonia González, the parish priest of the Parish of Sacred Heart of Jesus, Joaquín Ferrando, and the president of the Aso

In the Evaluation of the Community Process, it has been pointed out that the Intercultural Community Process is progressing significantly with regard to the achievement of fundamental milestones such as the development of a Community Program coherent with the Community Diagnosis, the participation of the three protagonists (administrations public, technical / as of public institutions and social entities, and neighbors), invigoration of spaces of relationship that have the implication of the diversity of the territory, development of actions that promote intercultural coexistence as the Global Citizen Action and the School Open Summer, or the Innovative Project that is oriented to the enabling of the Urban Sports Park located on Carlos III Street as a space for intercultural coexistence.

The general director of the Cepaim Foundation, Juan Antonio Segura, pointed out that "144 talks have been held with the three protagonists of the process - public administrations, technicians from public institutions and social entities and neighbors -" and the conclusion that "there are spaces for improvement such as linking the area's merchants in the community process, improving communication so that it reaches the neighbors better, converting certain spaces into disuse in areas of territorial and non-sectoral coexistence or improving infrastructure" In addition, he stressed that cultural diversity is "a great wealth that Cartagena neighborhoods have, since they all add up".

The deputy director general of the Banking Foundation 'La Caixa', Marc Simón, concluded by saying that "you can always improve but for this it is necessary to involve all the protagonists of the Community Process".
