The collapse of the perimeter wall of Villa Calamari demonstrates, once again, the lack of interest and inability of the regional government to protect the historical heritage of Cartagena (24/04/2019)

Yesterday, the neighborhood association of San Felix denounced the collapse of some sixty meters of the perimeter wall that protects the Property of Cultural Interest, Villa Calamari.

It is a new episode that shows the evident lack of interest of the regional administration in the patrimony of Cartagena.

After knowing this information, the councilman of MC and responsible for Culture, Ricardo Segado, said that "the maintenance plan agreed between the Directorate General of Cultural Property and the owner of the BIC not only proves to be insufficient, but also turns out to be inefficient and deprives the monument of any value for which it was declared BIC. "

The mayor of Cartagena has shown that "this new bad news is evidence, for the umpteenth time, the inability of the Directorate General of Cultural Heritage to preserve our historical heritage. The transmission of the value of this to our future generations is put at risk for the partisan interpretation of a law that allows expropriation, the subsidiary execution of consolidation works, the replacement of stolen items and even the restoration order ".

Segado lamented that "we lose history, we lose heritage, we lose identity ... Until when?" He added that "if something is unquestionable is that without administrative collusion this situation would not be a reality."

In the same way, Ricardo Segado has shown his interest in knowing the plans "of the returned Noelia Arroyo on Villa Calamari It is convenient to point out that until she was ceased in her duties in the Ministry of Culture she facilitated Villa Calamari to continue deteriorating with a mixture of laziness and inability ".

On the other hand, it is worth remembering that, in July 2017, the MC Heritage coordinator, María Dolores Ruiz, denounced the expoliation by action and omission of Villa Calamari and the Casa del Tío Lobo.

Subsequently, the Ombudsman, following this complaint by Ruiz, urged before the Ministry of Culture the beginning of the procedure for the protection of historical heritage by the expoliation of Villa Calamari and the Casa del Tío Lobo.
