The Minister of Health meets with members of the Parkinson's Association of the District of Cartagena (16/04/2019)

The Minister of Health, Manuel Villegas, met today with the president and the social worker of the Parkinson's Association of the District of Cartagena, Julio Pérez and Marta García, respectively, to establish ways of collaboration.

48 people who suffer from this disease are part of this association.

Parkinson's disease is a neurodegenerative, chronic and invalidating disease that affects the central nervous system, and is the second most frequent neurodegenerative pathology and has a progressive character.

This disease can also affect the youngest, since 15 percent of those affected do not exceed 45 years, and rarely can start in childhood or adolescence.

It is a complex disease, which affects men and women similarly, and which requires individual attention, adapted to the needs of patients and their families and caregivers.

In the Region there are 5,197 people diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, 2,343 of them are men and 2,854 women.
