Cs will expand the schedule of public libraries in Cartagena and promote the creation of six classrooms in two years (16/04/2019)

Citizens will expand the schedule of public libraries, enable spaces in civic centers that are not conditioned and create a true network of study classrooms in neighborhoods and councils of Cartagena to meet the natural demand of thousands of students, who request a place to study at night and during weekends.

Citizen's goal is to create six new study classrooms in two years.

In addition, the Liberal Party has reported that it will promote an agreement with the UPCT for the use of its facilities in specific periods.

One of these new spaces, according to the liberal party, could be the old Colegio Antonio Arévalo as requested by students of the UNED, "has the ability to accommodate during the night and weekend this service would be compatible with the use that are going to give the associations and cultural and sociosanitary groups, "says the spokesman and mayoral candidate for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

In addition, Cs will promote from the Assembly the creation of a regional public library, "the Community has countless accounts with Cartagena and one is this, if the priority of the performing arts in the Central Cinema does not allow it, we will have to find another location , and there are, "says Padín.

"This is the first step, make sense and take advantage of the resources we already have, the second is to start an inspection of municipal and regional spaces to promote new spaces," explains the liberal candidate who, in addition to the property on Sóller Street, points out the Hotel Peninsular or the municipal spaces that remain free for their transfer to this property, among other infrastructures.

Time limitations and lack of space

"No public library in our municipal area provides service during weekends, and most of them, during most days, close at 3:00 pm;

a very limited offer that obliges those who are examined at the university, by selectivity and by some oppositions to have to move to other municipalities more prepared for this demand as Murcia or Molina de Segura ", explains Manuel Padín, who points out that" the response to this problem by the Popular Party was the most complete indifference, and on the part of the PSOE only two classrooms of study 24 hours in four years, in El Albujón and El Algar, the latter very small and poorly soundproofed, when, in Murcia, for example, there are 18 and they have a network of libraries with broad hours that include weekends. "

"The offer of public spaces offered by our municipality to thousands of non-university students is a real shame that is not up to what is expected of Cartagena," said the Liberal spokesman.

For Manuel Padín, "public services have to be offered precisely when they are most needed, and not the other way around".

Padín points out that in addition to young people, more and more adults are deciding to study to prepare public job offers, "our obligation is to detect this exponential increase in demand and to adjust our offer gradually and progressively."
