The Friday of Dolores, Great Day of Cartagena, begins to live with the preparations of the Offering to the Patroness (11/04/2019)

The Holy Week in Cartagena, declared of International Tourist Interest, is now ready to begin touring the streets, and will do so, as is tradition, with the acts of Friday of Sorrows, April 12, from the procession of Cristo del Socorro , at dawn, until the parades of passion of the Most Holy Christ of Mercy and Mary Most Holy of the Rosary, of the Brotherhood of California, which will go out at night, going through the celebration of the Ounce of Gold in Charity, the Way of the Cross of Christ the Divine Mercy, and the procession of the Virgin of Charity of Alumbres.

To the procession Via Crucis of the Santísimo Cristo del Socorro, which will leave at 3.30 am from the street of the Sepulcher, in front of the Old Cathedral, will attend the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, accompanied by the councilor Carmen Martín del Amor. at dawn, around 7:45, after touring the center of the city with the austerity that characterizes this procession, accompanied only by a deaf drum and the recitation of the stations in the stops that it makes in its journey.

OUNCE OF GOLD

The festival day will continue at around 11.00 am, with the departure of the Municipal Corporation from the Consistorial Palace to the Basilica of Charity, accompanied by trumpeters, macerators, porters and gala police.

It will be Ricardo Segado, the youngest councilor of the Corporation, who will carry the flag of the city.

At 11.30 am the Mass will be held in honor of Charity, in which the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón, will fulfill the tradition of the Ounce of Gold Offering, which dates back to 1762 and symbolizes the economic contribution that the City of Cartagena carries out every year in favor of the poor patients of Santo and Real Hospital de Caridad.

And in the afternoon it will be the turn of the parade of the Floral Offering to the Patron, one of the central events of the Big Day organized by the Council of Celebrations of the City of Cartagena.

In addition, from the morning and throughout the day the Cartagena will be able to approach the doors of the Basilica of Charity to bring flowers to the patron, individually or in groups, and should be bouquets of 6 or 8 carnations, preferably white, red or pink, unwrapped.

Municipal employees will be responsible for collecting these flowers from the morning to go composing the mosaic on the structure enabled at the entrance of the temple.

As for the parade, the groups will gather at 4.30 pm at the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, from where they will depart at 5:00 pm in the direction of La Caridad with the following route: Calle Mayor, Plaza de San Sebastián, Puerta de Murcia, Sagasta, Toulouse Latour, Carmen, Santa Florentina, Park, Puertas de la Serreta Square, Serreta and Church of Charity.

In the same will participate around half of associations and groups of districts and councils, that add more than 1,500 people, dressed in the typical costume Cartagena.

Among them will be the Municipal Government Team, headed by the mayor, Ana Belén Castejón.

THE OTHER PROCESSES OF THE DAY

The day will be closed with passionate parades, such as the procession of the Way of the Cross of the Christ of the Divine Mercy, which will depart at six in the afternoon from the Plaza de la Merced with the following itinerary: Duke, San Ginés Square, San Francisco , San Francisco Square, Arc de la Caridad, San Vicente, López Pinto Square, Serreta, Caridad, Plaza de la Inmaculada, Duque and Plaza de la Merced (south and east side).

At nightfall will be the first and youngest of the processions of the California Brotherhood, the Holy Christ of Mercy and Holy Mary of the Rosary, which will depart at nine from the Church of Santa Maria de Gracia with the usual itinerary of the rest of processions , passing first through the streets of Aire, Cañón and Mayor.

Finally, the Virgen de la Caridad de Alumbres will parade through the streets of the town, also at nine o'clock at night, from the parish of San Roque, carrying the image carved in 1951 by José Lozano Roca who was venerated in the disappeared basilica from the town of the Escombreras Refinery.

Of all the acts and processions of the Passionate Cartagena week, information is provided for citizens and visitors in the municipal portal of the processions (semanasanta.cartagena.es), with an important collection of photographs.

FREE VISITS IN PUERTO DE CULTURAS

Cartagena, Port of Cultures takes advantage of the feast of Friday of Dolores to celebrate a day of open doors, so that the Roman Theater, the Punic Wall, the House of Fortune, the Augusteum, the Castle of the Conception, the Fort of Christmas , the Refuges of the Civil War and the Barrio del Foro Romano will be the places that can be visited for free during this day.

The celebration of Holy Week carries the traditional side of the Mayor's Office in which the traffic restrictions that will be maintained in the main streets of the urban area of ​​the city, as well as in neighborhoods and county councils, by the passage of the processions, are collected. remaining in effect from April 12, Friday of Dolores, until Easter Sunday, April 21.

the extension of the schedule of the urban buses, the Wednesday and Good Friday, until the conclusion of the processions;

SATURDAY OF MONAS AND TRANSFERS

On Saturday of Passion, April 13, throughout the afternoon, the transfers of the Marraja and California Brotherhoods will take place, as a penitential way of crucifixion, which will conclude with the arrival of their thrones to the Church of Santa Maria de Grace, temple from where the processions leave every day.

That same day, at 6:30 p.m., the Confraternity of the Resurrected celebrates its Cabildo de las Monas in the Isaac Peral room of the Mariner Training Barracks (CIM), Faculty of Business Sciences of the Polytechnic University.

In this council a review is made of the activities that have taken place throughout the year and the work of some Cartagena brothers is appreciated.

PROCESSION OF THE BURRICA

The Cofradía California, in addition to the parade of the Roman Soldiers in the morning, will take Palm Sunday, April 14, to the street the procession of the entrance of Our Father Jesus in Jerusalem, better known as the procession of the Burrica and that It is characterized by being the great parade of children, who become the true protagonists.
