The initiative promoted by the World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF) aims to combat climate change by reducing energy expenditure and is followed by thousands of cities in more than 180 countries.

The UPCT extinguishes between the 20:30 and the 21:30 hours the lights of the old buildings CIM (Faculty of Sciences of the Company), Alfonso XIII campus, House of the Student, Rectorship, R & D & I Building and former Hospital of Marina (School of Industrialists) With this symbolic gesture, the Vicerrectorado of Campus and Sustainability wants to join the actions to make citizens aware of the need to reduce energy expenditure.

The Vicerrectorado invites the university community to adhere to this initiative by carrying out the blackout in their homes or promoting it in the places where they are located.

Earth Hour, started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, as a symbolic gesture of the fight against climate change.

Ten years later, it has become the largest environmental mobilization campaign in history.

This action aims to prevent the planet from increasing its temperature and causing irreversible damage to the nature, economy and well-being of living beings.
