Cs asks the City Council to comply with its agreement to promote the modernization and expansion of the El Gorguel landfill (27/03/2019)

- "The PSOE has eight months of crossed arms when it must, by virtue of our proposal, to send to the Community the needs of the landfill, the investments made and those planned to be able to access regional and European millionaire subsidies", said Manuel Padín

Cartagena, Wednesday, March 27.

On the occasion of the information published today by the Truth in which he states that the modernization and expansion of the urban solid waste treatment plant is still pending, the spokesperson for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín, wishes to recall that his Group defended and removed In the plenary session of August 2018 (despite the abstention of MC and the vote against Podemos) a motion for the City Council and the concessionaire company to promote both the modernization and the extension of the El Gorguel landfill, "an agreement who has been breaking the PSOE Government for eight months now, and also allows himself the luxury of not informing other groups or the public. "

The agreement of Cs obliges the City Council to resolve and send to the General Directorate of the Environment the list of landfill needs (extension of personnel, modernization of the facilities in terms of waste separation), the investment made so far and the projected in the coming years to comply with the objectives of the Waste Directive, the Waste Law and the Regional Waste Plan, "this is an essential requirement to be eligible for new regional aid and those offered by the European Union through of ERDF funds for those plants that meet the criteria of the European Union, and that could exceed 5 million euros ".

"Although the management of waste is the responsibility of the municipality with this inaction by the PSOE, we are losing the possibility of accessing the millions of dollars that we need and we risk that part of the service will collapse within four years," Padín fears.

In opinion of the spokesman of the liberal party, this problem requires an immediate action of the City council to several levels, "or we reacted already, or we are going to have to face a crisis in this sector of unpredictable consequences, but that surely they will affect our economy and our environment. "

Manuel Padín recalled that the European Commission has marked that in 2020 the level of reuse and recycling is 50% (when the PSOE only aspires to 15 percent and stands at 9 percent), and 65% for 2030, "that is, we have a lot of work to do to catch up, and for that challenge we have no choice but to join forces between the regional administration, the local administration and the company that manages this matter".

Expansion of the landfill, blocked by the PSOE

Regarding the expansion of a glass of Mina Regente in El Gorguel, a manager of FCC already informed this summer to the orange spokesman who were working to solve with the General Directorate of Environment a problem with the border of a protected area LIC and ZEPA , which according to the company was poorly mapped in its day, "eight months later, the PSOE Government has not submitted, as it is something that is incumbent upon the owner of the land, the proposal of environmental compensation required by the regional Administration to authorize the expansion. "

"We will ask for explanations in the Plenary to force this procedure that you do not know, can, or want to do PSOE," warns Padín.

As Citizens have learned, the current capacity of El Gorguel landfill is four and a half years;

with the permission to expand the 'Dos Amigos' glass, operability would increase up to eight years.
