The project 'I want to be an engineer' arrives at the laboratories of the UPCT (15/03/2019)

The second phase of the 'I want to be an engineer' project has now reached its second phase in the UPCT, which consists of one-day internships in the different centers of the university.

In this way, there is continuity to the first phase, which consisted of visits to the IES of the Region and the celebration of a gala and engineering fair on January 22 at the Víctor Villegas Auditorium in Murcia.

The UPCT has offered activities from the schools of Agronomists, Architecture, Roads, Industrial and Telecommunications and will be held in days of one morning for 13 sessions.

With these practices, the students will have a direct contact with the different schools of the UPCT, being able to develop activities in the laboratories of the different branches of engineering.

These are motivating and fun practices with which they can, little by little, take action.

For the development of the same will have the help of different mentors in small engineering projects that allow them to understand the difference between being mere users or active agents.

Specifically, this Friday will be more than one hundred students of the IES Ben Arabí of Cartagena and the Santa Ana and Cruz de Piedra de Jumilla Concert Centers that participate in the practices organized by the School of Agronomists and that will take place in the Agroalimentary Experimental Station. Tomás Ferro '.

The activities that will be carried out will be on genetics and food, the production of vegetables, projects to recover endangered plant species and how to process fresh fruit and vegetable products.

Registration for this second phase was made online through the website quieroseringeneira.es.

The deadline was opened on February 13 and closed on the 22nd of the same month.

A total of 36 secondary schools from 24 different locations in the Region of Murcia were enrolled, reaching a total of 1,681 students and 86 registered teachers.

Finally, it is expected that more than 1,200 female students participate in this phase of the project.

'I want to be an engineer' has been promoted and financed by the Institute for Women and Equal Opportunities of the Equality Secretariat with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Region of Murcia.

The UPCT is one of the six Spanish universities that were selected to develop this project.
