Waiting list in the ChairAgritechMurcia-UPCT to form growers (09/03/2019)

A success.

The AgritechMurcia-UPCT chair has been forced to increase the number of places in its first year to train growers, specialists in greenhouse management with high technology.

This initiative, which has been offered at the request of different companies in the agri-food sector, already has a waiting list for the next edition, whose date is still to be determined and which will probably also be offered in English.

The course, of 300 hours, is carried out through the network by 35 students, most of them technicians from the agricultural sector of Spain, Mexico, Costa Rica, Colombia and Puerto Rico.

The training deals with the greenhouse equipment, the economic viability of the crops, the automatisms and the integrated management of the greenhouse.

"The fundamental thing is to learn to modulate the operation of the greenhouse.

Integrating climate, nutrition and irrigation can act on production, quality and health and be more competitive in the market, "says the course coordinator, Lola Gómez, professor of Agroforestry Engineering and director of the Chair.

The classes of the course are taught through streaming on Thursday afternoons.

The faculty comes from the University of Wageningen, in Holland;

the UPCT;

research centers such as CEBAS and IMIDA;

Cajamar Las Palmerillas and large production companies such as HTC Mexico and greenhouse technology companies such as Nutricontrol, Ritec, Novagric, jhuete, Hydroponic Systems International and RUFEPA.

The Digital Content Production Center of the UPCT records the classes and is available to students.

The practices will be carried out in Mexico and in the companies that the AgritechMurcia Chair has in Spain.

In addition practical cases will be made with simulators.

The Institute of Development of the Region of Murcia has supported the initiative in line with its commitment to agricultural technology and the AgritechMurcia platform, financing the lectures of the Wageningen professor.

The course started on January 21 and will end on May 10.
