The UCAM increases its collaboration with five new social entities of Cartagena (08/03/2019)

The president of the Catholic University, José Luis Mendoza, signs in the Campus of Los Dolores a training and research agreement with the ostomized association of the port city and other agreements for the promotion of volunteering with APICES, the Charity Association 'San Vicente de Paul ', the San Pablo Center and the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Cartagena.

The Catholic University San Antonio continues to expand its social action in Cartagena and, in the framework of the Days of Charity and Volunteering of its International Institute of Volunteering Juan Pablo II, the president of the institution, José Luis Mendoza, has signed six collaboration agreements and has announced an economic contribution to five social groups in the port city, in addition to 30 other non-profit entities in the area with which the UCAM has agreements.

Specifically, Mendoza has signed an agreement to promote the realization of volunteering by students of the UCAM in the associations APICES, which is dedicated to;

Fundación Pía Autónoma Reverendo Matías Egea, responsible for offering educational support and leisure activities at the San Pablo Center in Los Dolores among minors at risk of social exclusion;

and the Charity Association 'San Vicente de Paúl', which also provides school reinforcement to students from neighborhoods such as Lo Campano.

In addition, the UCAM has signed two agreements with the Association of Multiple Sclerosis of Cartagena and Region, one for university students to help as volunteers and another for practices, both in the field of Physiotherapy, Nursing and Psychology, as the Business Administration, ... as it is an entity declared of public interest.

In this sense, José Luis Mendoza has highlighted the lines of research being developed by the UCAM to cure or at least improve the quality of life of these patients.

In another vein, the president of the UCAM has signed an agreement with the recently created ostomized association of Cartagena, in order to promote not only the realization of practices by nursing students, but research and specific training in this field among future health professionals studying at the Los Dolores Campus.

We understand as an ostomated patient the person who has undergone surgery to obtain a physiological derivation that goes outside at a different point to the natural orifice, leading to biological alterations (hygienic, dietary changes, loss of toilet training), among others.
