The Popular University celebrates International Women's Day (08/03/2019)

The program of activities to commemorate International Women's Day will be completed with three events organized by the Popular University and which have taken women pioneers as a guiding thread.

On Tuesday 12, at 5:00 pm, in the Multipurpose Hall of the Municipal Archive (Artillery Park), the film 'Hidden Figures' will be screened and a moderated cinema will be held by Sergio Martínez, vice president of the FICC International Film Festival of Cartagena and monitor of the Cinema Bazaar of the Popular University.

This film tells the story, hitherto unknown, of three African-American scientists who worked for NASA in the early 1960s and, at the same time, were pioneers in their struggle for the civil rights of African-Americans.

Admission will be free until all seats.

On the other hand, the Popular University also wants to remember Carmen Conde, founder of the same, along with Antonio Oliver, who was also a pioneer among other things to be the first woman to be part of the Royal Academy of the Spanish Language.

To talk about her and other pioneers such as Rosa Chacel or Mª Teresa León, on Wednesday the journalist Rosa Villacastín will visit our city, who got to know the poet from Cartagena on a personal and professional level.

This meeting will take place on Wednesday the 13th, at 6:00 pm, in the Assembly Hall of the Roman Theater Museum.

On Thursday, the students of level 3 of the Photography Course of the Popular University will take the floor.

After completing the photographic itinerary offered by the Popular University by the hand of Fructu Navarro, they will show their images in a choral Photographic Exhibition inspired by pioneering women.

The inauguration will be at 7:00 pm, at the Ramón Alonso Luzzy Cultural Center, and the exhibition will be open until April 21.

With these three events the Popular University celebrates one more year the Women's Day and continues in its task of training citizenship in equality with the aim of promoting and promoting training and culture, asserting its motto 'A space for all and demonstrating why it is the Cultural Heritage of the City.
