A hundred new trees are planted in 31 schools of the municipality for the Day of the Nature (05/03/2019)

On the occasion of the International Day of Nature, which is celebrated on March 3, and the International Day of Forests that is celebrated on the 21st under the theme 'Forests and education', the Department of Education, in collaboration with the Concejalía de Infraestructuras, and Hidrogea together with the aquae foundation and the Senior Senda Sociocultural Association, has launched an initiative in which 100 new trees will be planted in 31 schools in the municipality of Cartagena.

This Tuesday, day 5, has started by planting the first three in the CEIP Asdrúbal de Lo Campano, followed by three others in the CEIP Nuestra Señora del Mar in Santa Lucia with the assistance of the councilor for education, Mercedes García, accompanied by the manager of Hidrogea, Fulcencio Díaz, together with representatives of Senda Senior.

The students have collaborated in the plantation in order to raise awareness and make them responsible for the care and irrigation of the trees, in which the Senda Senior Association will also collaborate.

The objective of this project, which will take place during the 5th, 6th and 7th of March, is to promote the idea of ​​having greener, healthier and happier schools, taking back the areas with vegetation from the school playgrounds that have been removed progressively and replacing with cement.

The presence of these trees will allow to cool the air, filter pollutant particles from the air and help mitigate climate change, as well as serve as a barrier to reduce noise pollution and cool the air, thanks to the very shade they will provide shortly.

The species that will be planted are varieties that adapt easily to our climate, and will provide shade in a short space of time, such as chinus, tipuanas, turbintos, mulberry trees, jacarandas, pines, olive trees, tetraclinis and carob trees.

The Colleges where they are going to intervene are the CEIP Antonio Machado, Asdrúbal, Asomada, Carthago, Hazim, Our Lady of the Sea, Aljorra, Azorín, Gabriela Mistral, Santiago Apóstol, San Isidoro Labrador, Santa Florentina, Santa María del Buen Aire , Virginia Pérez, Ciudad Jardín, Feliciano Sánchez, Luis Calandre, Luis Vives, Our Lady of Los Dolores, Vicente Medina, Mare Nostrum, Mastia, San Felix, Stella Maris, Vicente Ros, Virgin of Begoña, San Cristóbal, San Francisco Javier, Poet Antonio Oliver.
