The latest economic and socio-demographic indicators endorse, according to Cs, the need to reorient investments (04/03/2019)

- Only six entities of population out of the city agglutinate 57.3 percent of unemployment in the municipality

Cartagena, Monday, March 4.

The latest data offered by the Tax Agency and the Regional Statistical Center (CREM) highlight alarming levels of poverty and unemployment in some neighborhoods and councils of Cartagena with respect to other towns within the municipality.

The CREM indicators show that in the last quarter of 2018 only six entities, San Antón (3,878), El Plan (2,746), Santa Lucía (950), Rincón de San Ginés (854), Canteras (555) and El Algar ( 534) represent 80 percent of out-of-town unemployment and 57.3 percent of total unemployment.

On the other hand, the Tax Agency recently warned that El Albujón and La Aljorra are two of the lowest income localities in Spain with 15,998 euros and 16,265, respectively, when the municipality average is 20,548.

Finally, while the population increases in the Region of Murcia, Cartagena adds four consecutive years of demographic regression, and already low of 214,000 to be in the 213,943 inhabitants, according to the latest data from the INE.

"66 percent of the municipalities increase their census while ours suffers the sharpest decrease that has returned us to 2007, and is the only municipality with a large population with negative data, which seems to us an alarming information that confirms the need for apply the measures that we have already proposed successfully in plenary session, but that do not start, "said the spokesman for Cs Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

Measures despised by the PSOE

Citizens managed to take forward in October an agreement that urges the Government of Cartagena to develop a study on the socioeconomic reality of the municipality, to identify the evolution of those areas with a greater deficit in services and infrastructure, as well as lack of public support and those that are experiencing the phenomenon of depopulation, unemployment, and poverty in an outstanding and significant way.

The Cs initiative also calls for an analysis of the economic and personnel possibilities needed to expand the current and constrained Municipal Employment Observatory in order to extend its objectives so that it is a complete socio-economic observatory that guides budgetary policies.

"With our proposal to analyze the socioeconomic profile of our districts, that is, with a rigorous and technical analysis, we want to approach with justice criteria the preparation of a balanced municipal and regional budget that affects the areas that suffer these negative indicators to act one way or another as the case may be, and break that bipartisan tradition of designing the accounts at the stroke of improvisation and political opportunism to win votes "says Manuel Padín who has announced that this study will be one of his conditions to support the budgets of 2019 and an investment philosophy that will assume Cs if it reaches the local government.

Rational and informed economic plan against depopulation

For Citizens, it is vital to write and execute, through the socio-economic observatory, a comprehensive economic plan against depopulation, poverty, and accused unemployment in Cartagena.

"and must include a map of needs in infrastructures and basic services, to identify the investment priority, shock plans with tax incentives for the installation of companies in depressed areas, regional and European help lines for housing improvements, intermediation works to resuscitate commercial activity, new inventories and empty housing stock exchanges, promoting access to banking services in rural areas, promoting local childcare services as is done with home help for the elderly, strategic improvements in public transport, among many other measures that our party is willing to apply in Cartagena ", said Manuel Padín.
