Cs requests celerity to adhere the Los Remedios cemetery to the European Cemeteries Network, pending from 2015 (25/02/2019)

"The first monumental cemetery of the Region of Murcia is still not in the network of cemeteries of the ASCE because the City Council, as recognized in the House, does not know how to make the online payment of the entrance fee," recriminates the spokesman of Cs Cartagena

The Los Remedios cemetery in Santa Lucia continues today outside the European Cemeteries Route, as today Citizens have been able to confirm today by consulting the entity that manages it, the Association of Significant Cemeteries of Europe (ASCE).

Since the regular plenary in July 2016, the local government has been justifying the breach of the agreement by assuring that it does not know how to pay the monthly fee to the Association of Significant Cemeteries of Europe (ASCE), an entity that accepted inclusion in its network. of the Cartagena cemetery, and that is waiting for payment, "said the orange spokesman, Manuel Padin, who considers" disheartening that this City Council does not know how to make a telematic transfer of money or have found in three years a viable alternative to perform the payment. "" There are some Spanish municipalities on the route, how difficult is it to pick up the phone and call to find out how they pay the fee? "the spokesperson asked.

The Council of Europe has wanted to support funeral tourism in recent years, and has recognized the European Route of Cemeteries with the mention of Cultural Itinerary, the same distinction that has such prestigious routes as the Camino de Santiago.

The route promotes this valuable heritage through a network of cities that have especially significant cemeteries.

The ASCE is a non-profit association, with a marked European character in which all public and private entities that manage or conserve the tangible and intangible heritage of cemeteries are located.

Currently, it includes the 179 most important cemeteries in more than 50 cities in 22 countries and its objective is to promote the restoration of the funerary landscape, convert these spaces into a tool of knowledge and continuous research, and operate with a clear educational vocation so that schools incorporate it into their cultural visits.

In addition, they revalue these places by offering a cultural product where, in a unique way, history, art, memory and nature are intertwined, through tours of great variety and cultural richness.

"From Cs we consider that the Cemetery of Santa Lucía, one of the best testimonies of the history of Cartagena and the first monumental cemetery of the Region, deserves to be integrated into this network because it would promote the funerary heritage of the city placing it at the same level as other European graveyards of great historical and artistic importance, "explained the spokesman Manuel Padín, who says it has been" the situation of continuous degradation and plundering have forced us, before the Government's sloppiness, to propose this road map to dignify this Treasure of Cartagena ".

Citizens withdraw the complaint against Carmen Berrocal

Citizens has contacted the Council of Transparency of the Region of Murcia to withdraw their complaint for the presumed resolution of the City of Cartagena not to provide the orange training a copy of the Master Plan for Protection and Recovery of the Cemetery of Our Lady of Remedies, nor the inventory of goods, a study commissioned by the Governing Board in 2017 with 5,000 euros of budget.

The spokesman for Citizens has made this decision after meeting with the Coordinator of Heritage, Carmen Berrocal, and accessing all the documents requested and that were the reason for the complaint.

Cs also informs that it has decided not to raise the matter to the Ombudsman as it announced once it considers satisfied its pretensions of access to the documents

On the other hand, the spokesman of Cs has announced that his Group, provided that the conditions are given that allow the negotiation of the municipal budgets of 2019, will demand the inclusion of a heading to continue advancing in the execution of the Master Plan of Protection and Valorization of the Cemetery of Our Lady of Remedies, "there is much to do and there is much uncertainty to protect and value one of the most valuable symbols of our municipality, the promises and deadlines offered by MC have turned out to be just another fantasy of this localist group, our heritage needs the push of more responsible and effective political parties.
