Cs Cartagena informs that the Technical Office of Accessibility will be definitively implemented on March 1 (19/02/2019)

The City of Cartagena has summoned all the components of the Municipal Commission of Accessibility to the work table for the definitive implementation of the Technical Accessibility Office on Friday, March 1, at the La Milagrosa Building.

It is the answer to an old complaint from the Municipal Citizens Group, "but without an updated accessibility plan and without a multi-year schedule of concrete deadlines and investments, we have not taken a single effective step to truly end the architectural barriers of the municipality. with the Office we have taken the first step, but it is not enough and it arrives three years late ", said the spokesman for Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

"The office should be the nerve center of municipal accessibility policies in this legislature, so it is not understood that it took so long to be established, one year after the approval of the Universal Accessibility Regulatory Ordinance, three years after that the Municipal Disability Plan be approved and three months before the municipal elections ", laments the local spokesman of Cs who warns that this measure will not be enough," to be able to carry out a real plan of action, the first thing that is necessary is that the Office Technique implement our amendment 2017: the update of the Accessibility Plan to the needs of the Cartagena of 2019, "said Manuel Padin who says that" the plan that now exists is a decade and is useless since it does not even fit the new regulations, so it is impossible to really undertake, in a viable, planned and priority, the relevant actions and adjust our urban spaces

to the ordinance. "

For Manuel Padín, "the City Council has worked so slowly and so badly that it will not be able to reach the end of the term with an effective political plan to improve the accessibility of Cartagena, for which it has dedicated itself to patching the municipality with jobs without order or concert. "

To the fiasco of the Municipal Commission of Accessibility is added the one of other tables and commissions of work like the one of Commerce (without advances, and without plan), the one of Drogodependencias (not operative), the one of the Algameca Chica (forgotten), the one of Animal Welfare (forgotten), the Pact for the Night (forgotten), the Citizen Participation (inoperative), Reforestation (inoperative), the modification of the Organic Regulation of the Plenary (inoperative), the Board of Justice (forgotten), the Commission for the Follow-up of the Plenary Agreements (forgotten), the Water Board (forgotten), Air Quality (inoperative), or the School Bullying Board (forgotten), "among other spaces promised and never called as the Sports Observatory , not to mention the uselessness of each and every one of the research commissions, in short, a shameful list, a faithful reflection of a lost and exhausted legislature thanks to PSOE, MC, and Podemos ".

Accessible containers, breach

On the other hand, Cs denounces that the PSOE continues without fulfilling its commitment, following an agreement promoted by the orange training in August 2018, to adapt the municipality's containers in a progressive manner to make them accessible also to people with disabilities or reduced mobility.

"In the last plenary session, the PSOE promised to carry out a pilot test with the installation of these accessible elements, but nothing has been done so far," says Manuel Padín

The containers of urban waste and recycling that are currently on the streets of Cartagena are not adapted to be used by people with disabilities presenting high holes and burdensome opening systems, "in a municipality of more than 217,000 inhabitants is somewhat sad ", says Padín.

There are containers in the market that do comply with the legislation on accessibility and have all the requirements that make them suitable for use by these groups, "just lack a bit of political will," says Padin.
