The City of Cartagena fights against sexist advertising through a new ordinance (04/02/2019)

The Councilor for Equality of the City of Cartagena, David Martinez, attended this morning, February 4, the Municipal Equality Council, held in the Artillery Park, to take stock of activities in this area during 2018 and address the proposals that will be made during this year 2019, among which is an ordinance against sexist advertising.

The Equality Council is an organ of participation and consultation on issues of Gender Equality and Violence in the municipality of Cartagena.

David Martinez has stated that "the Plan against Gender Violence is finished, but, its design is being finalized to present it".

In addition, he noted that "within 15 days, the Equality Plan will be delivered to all groups of the Council to make their contributions."

In relation to the Plan against Gender Violence, David Martínez, explained that "Cartagena has received a help from the State Pact, very demanded, for CAVI workers, which has meant the entry of new workers, from 3 to 5, that is, one more social worker and one more psychologist ".

In addition, he added that in this matter they have asked the Community to "expand the profiles of social educators to have more workers in the Shelter and thus be able to perform more shifts and serve a greater number of victims of violence. Gender".

SEXIST ADVERTISING

Among the proposals that will be made in 2019 is the new ordinance to prohibit sexist advertising, especially in hostess clubs.

The mayor of Equality has explained that "it is a matter that hurts us and from the Department of Equality we have sent writings to the entrepreneurs of these places to withdraw advertising so demeaning to the woman they do".

This new ordinance will not only fight against the advertising of the hostess clubs but also against sexist advertising in general.

David Martinez has clarified that "you have to wear purple glasses to see that some clothing advertising campaigns are sexist to show a stunning woman carrying shopping bags because men also buy."

In addition, has indicated that it is "an ordinance that is working since last year and is expected to be ready for this year."
