The City Council will seek European aid to continue improving the environment of Los Mateos, Lo Campano and Santa Lucia (28/01/2019)

The mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, informed this morning, January 28, the members of the Fenix ​​Manifesto, in addition to continuing to work from the different councils to improve these neighborhoods, European subsidies will be sought to face a most ambitious regeneration project in the whole area.

"The Fénix manifesto arose from the abandonment to which these neighborhoods were subjected in previous legislatures.

The political groups committed ourselves to a series of actions if we arrived at the Government and we have surpassed them a lot because we have done much more than what was foreseen and that is how we are going to continue.

We are going to request European aid because we have very ambitious projects for this area, which we will specify later, "said the mayor.

In addition, this meeting has set a schedule of working meetings between the different councils, coordinated from Social Services, and the entities of the neighborhoods and neighbors, to continue specifying future actions.

Since its launch in September 2015, 12 working sessions have been held with the Coordinator and the Board for the Fenix ​​Manifesto.

In the different work meetings that have been held, members of the Fénix Platform, Neighborhood Association, Women's Association, Educational Center, "Rascasa" Association, Neighborhood Coordinator as well as technicians and councilors of Social Services, Youth, Sports, Education, Equality, Celebrations and Transparency, Citizen Security and Local Police.

Since the Fenix ​​Manifesto was launched, many actions have been carried out, among which the rehabilitation of the Molino de las Piedras and the plaza of the Church of Los Mateos, which have been carried out during 2018 thanks to the Participatory Budgets. .

Also, this year have been carried out improvement actions in the social premises and in the local band cornets and drums.

In terms of road safety, new traffic discs have been placed and the road markings have been repainted.

Also, a radar for speed control has been placed on several streets.

In matters of Infrastructure, several streets have been buffed to improve the condition of the roads.

Likewise, a Protocol of Intervention between Urbanism and Social Services has been established for the warnings and decrees of demolitions by ruins.

Education is fundamental, so a program of Social Intervention and Educational Reinforcement with Minors was launched with Rascasa;

dining rooms and summer schools were developed;

the school absenteeism prevention campaign continues in Los Mateos;

the Return to the Cole March is celebrated;

and a children's drawing contest has been held to raise awareness about public cleanliness.

To this must be added the actions carried out from Social Services, such as the implementation of the Access Point to Social Services to improve the flow of previous appointments and expansion of the number of procedures in Primary Care;

increase in the Social Workforce in the area;

support through subsidies to different social entities that work in the prevention and fight against social exclusion in the area.

From Equality, diverse workshops have been developed with women and the School for the Empowerment of Women, and from other departments, programs of Employability through Youth Guarantee are held;

support and coordination of resources and actions in terms of training and employment for groups in situations of social exclusion;

and from the ADLE an insertion program has been made for 15 young people between 18 and 30 years old.

Regarding Infrastructures, the cleaning of the surroundings and the Castle's pit were carried out, as well as the improvement of public lighting;

demolition of two shacks or storage buildings next to the Castle;

improvement of the Plaza del Sauce;

arrangement of the Plaza de Perico El Cojo;

and participation in the EU-MAPS Project for the rehabilitation and reuse of military and defensive constructions: Castillo de los Moros.

These are just some examples of the many actions that have taken place in the area.
