Cs asks its national and regional deputies to urge the Ministry and the Community to clarify the Hondon situation (12/01/2019)

- Orange training claims the City Council to tender the fence of the plot and to assess the need to cover the contaminated area as neighbors and environmentalists ask

"Nuclear Safety is a priority for Citizens and should be for the rest of the political parties and does not help the credibility of the nuclear public sector the politicization of the regulatory entity because that generates discredit and lack of confidence when they offer us data, especially when they proclaim incomplete affirmations that supposedly are sustained with technical reports that have not been published ", has indicated today the spokesman of Citizens in Cartagena, Manuel Padín.

In this sense it is worth remembering that Ciudadanos presented and managed to take forward on June 21, 2017 a Proposition No of Law in the Congress of Deputies that addressed the reform of the Nuclear Safety Council (CSN) with the aim of guaranteeing its independence.

The orange training has also repeatedly requested the modification of the statutes of the CSN in such a way that it is mandatory to broadcast live the meetings of its plenary sessions and the publication of the session diaries.

"From Cs Cartagena, we believe that the lack of independence of this body is one of the main reasons why there is a deficit of transparency reported by the Professional Association of Technicians in Nuclear Safety and Radiological Protection (Astecsn) and that has today recalled the La Verdad newspaper, "said the local spokesman for Cs.

Therefore, Cs Cartagena has today sent to its national deputies in Congress the need to press the Ministry of Ecological Transition to report on the status of the modification of the Nuclear Energy Law and the Royal Decree that regulates aspects fundamental in relation to the soils contaminated radiologically, among them, the development of the inventory of this kind of land that has been pending for a decade.

On the other hand, Cs Cartagena has asked its national deputies to evaluate the possibilities that exist to access and make public the reports in which the CSN has analyzed the radiological risks for the population and for the environment, among other issues.

Citizens understand that it is also necessary for the CSN to pronounce on the need to increase protection measures in the area, as requested by various neighborhood groups and environmentalists, such as covering the area with tarps or topsoil, "we have asked our national deputies and regional that try to start the Ministry, the CSN, and the Community a clear answer on this as the Security Council is the first to admit that it was devoid of a more detailed analysis.

In addition, the orange spokesman in Cartagena regretted that "the PSOE of Cartagena has been excusing the delay to fence the perimeter of the contaminated soil in El Hondón for an alleged authorization of the Directorate General of Environment when it has reiterated on several occasions that no it was necessary, that not even the City Council should have sent them the project, just proceed to do it ".

"The lack of coordination between the administrations of the PP and the PSOE in such essential matters, and the lack of sufficient technical information, seems overwhelming and terrifying to us," Padín recriminates.

Independent CSN?

At this time, reports Ciudadanos, the six-year presidency of the ex-secretary of State for Energy of the PP expired on December 28, "and now opens a period of renewal where PP and PSOE will play their unfortunate battle for control of this organism that should be commanded by a technical and meritocratic leadership to orient this entity that proclaims itself independent but whose leadership lends itself like any other to the game of majorities and the distribution of power between socialists and popular and ends up occupied by advisers who are not independent nor do they treasure the minimum technical capacity, "says the Cs spokesman.

How is it possible that in the Plenary of the Nuclear Safety Council has never been a technician of the Nuclear Safety and Radiological Protection of the State ?, asks Manuel Padin who considers that this fact is crazy, "could we admit that in the General Council of the Judiciary there would be no judges? ".
