Mountains of toys for the most needy children of Cartagena (28/12/2018)

Mountains of toys, that in the image that could be seen this Friday, December 28, in the courtyard of the Administrative Building of San Miguel Street at the closing of 'Juguetea'.

The campaign of the City of Cartagena, promoted by the Department of Social Services and Social Mediation, has collected more than 3,000 new toys for children of the municipality that are in a situation of need.

The Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García;

along with representatives of all collaborating entities, among which were the Colonel Director of the Marine Infantry School 'General Albacete y Fuster' (EIMGAF), Enrique Montero;

or the manager of TeleCartagena, Loles Rodríguez;

They have attended the closing ceremony of this solidary campaign.

"We had the goal of serving 1,060 families, who had requested it through entities, but we also had the request of other entities that had been left on the waiting list and we are convinced that we will be able to attend them," said the Council of Social Services, showing their satisfaction for the development of the campaign,

Once the collection is completed, and before counting the donated gifts, it is estimated that all the children of the families that have taken part in this solidarity initiative will have a toy this Christmas.

García has declared that they hope to surpass the 3,000 toys of the last edition.

The mayor of Social Services has also conveyed her "greatest gratitude" to the more than 60 men and women of the Municipal Volunteer Program who have participated in this campaign and to the 19 collaborating entities and especially to all citizens of Cartagena who deliver new toys " the concept that people have of collaboration has changed with those who need it and that is appreciated. "

After classifying the toys by age with the help of the volunteers of the campaign, they will be handed over to the different solidarity entities that will later be responsible for distributing them.

One of the outstanding contributions has been that of the Navy, which contributes since 2012, and this year has collected more than 700 gifts.

"It is a figure that we consider important, every year we try to make an effort and increase the number, and this year is one of those," said the colonel director of EIMGAF, Enrique Montero.
