MC conveys the importance of combining urban regeneration and social inclusion in the Community Intervention Program (ICI) (19/12/2018)

This morning, the councilor of MC Cartagena, Francisco Calderón, and the president of the cartagenerista formation, Jesus Giménez, have held a meeting, in the headquarters of the municipal Group (Consistorial Palace, 2nd floor), with representatives of the Project of Intercultural Community Intervention (ICI).

In this way, MC has renewed its commitment to coexistence and social cohesion through initiatives such as the ICI for the Historic District and the Station Sector or the MAPS in Los Mateos.

At the same time, the appointment has served for the formation of Cartagena to transmit its priority actions in order to give continuity to the objectives set in this program.

At the end of the meeting, Giménez has conveyed that "we have called attention to the need for urban regeneration to go hand in hand with social inclusion, because it is necessary to know what society we form and want to be able to offer opportunities".

Then, the Cartagena leader said that "we have stressed the importance of the project requires the Autonomous Community to participate in the ideas and decision on the expansion of MURAM and the complementary uses of the Central Cinema, remembering that the Plenary agreed to proposal of MC that is the headquarters of the FICC and Casa de la imagen and the scene, they are real estate for which more than 3 million euros have been paid and nothing has been done in years to improve the environment ".

The Socialist Government turns its back on Los Mateos

After the content of the meeting, Jesús Giménez, has addressed the null activity developed by the MAPS project for Los Mateos since his voluntary resignation as coordinator.

"The local government has turned its back on the neighborhood and on the Comprehensive Action Plan that received recognition from the European Union in 2017."

"Many of us are afraid that the option of financing will be lost, as in 2018 the opportunity to take this work system to other neighborhoods has been lost despite the introduction of a budget for this," he underlined.

He concluded by saying that "this fear is not ours alone." Last Sunday, during the reforestation day held on the hill of Los Moros, the groups transmitted their concern about the abandonment and lack of socialist coordination, compared to the proactive action that We carry out with Casco Antiguo and Sustainable Development until December of 2017. "

ICI Project

The ICI Project proposes a participatory methodology of local administration, technicians of public and private entities and citizens.

Its objective is to contribute to citizen coexistence and social cohesion.

This is an initiative promoted by the Obra Social 'La Caixa' in 39 municipalities throughout Spain, including Cartagena, which maximized its contribution during the Mayor's Office of MC, with José López, and Francisco Calderón as head of the area of Quality of life.

The other promoter is the Cepaim Foundation.

In our municipality, the project has focused on addressing the current situation of the Historic Center and the Station Sector.

Among its proposals is the community meeting that led to the presentation of the Community Monograph and Diagnosis 'Living the present, building the future', a study that collects the status of the aforementioned neighborhoods.
