Citizens hope that the announcement of Castejón to give a space to the Pharmacy Academy is not "a toast to the sun" (01/12/2018)

- The collegiate body, the only one of these characteristics in Cartagena, has been planning to launch a Pharmacy Museum in the city for years.

Citizens has collected the statements made by the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, during the solemn act of commencement of activities 2019 of the Santa Maria Academy of Pharmacy of Spain of the Region, where he announced that he would shortly execute one of the first plenary agreements driven by the orange training in this term: the transfer to the Academy of Pharmacy of a local that possesses the necessary conditions to install the "Museum of Pharmacy" and place its headquarters there.

The spokesman of Citizens Cartagena, Manuel Padín, recalled that in 2015, after having proof that the Academy management was considering moving to Murcia its headquarters for the lack of space and solutions in Cartagena, met urgently with the president of this collegiate body, "in this way we were able to know that since its foundation in 2002, the Academy has its registered office in Cartagena, in a place provided by the Town Hall located in Tolosa Latour Street, a place that lacks the necessary conditions to carry out its activities due to its small size, the defective electrical installation and the poor conditions of the infrastructure ".

Manuel Padín remarks that it is the only Academy of these characteristics that has its headquarters in the city of Cartagena and that "it has been projected for many years to open a Pharmacy Museum in our city, for which they have multiple historical pieces such as spectrophotometers, electrophoresis with its buckets, or precision scales, among others. "

In addition, they also have, thanks to the donation by the pharmacy that for more than a century and a half was located in the main street of Cartagena, today on Victoria Street, valuable coffered ceilings, frescoes and ceramic pottery.

It also has an interesting collection of pharmacy books donated by pharmacists Álvarez Gómez and Enrique Gelabert that amount to more than 500 copies.

The Academy has made numerous arrangements with public and private organizations to open its museum in our city, without these efforts have borne fruit, "so we presented our motion in 2015 that was supported by the Plenary, now I hope the announcement of the mayor it is not just a toast to the sun, it is certainly something that we will take into account in the upcoming negotiations for the municipal budget of 2019. "

The spokesman explained that "due to the lack of adequate facilities to maintain their offices and the absence of municipal support to open the projected museum, there has always been the risk of moving to the city of Murcia from where it has received offers for part of that City Council, something we want to avoid at all costs. "

"We can not afford to let the Academy of Pharmacy Santa Maria of Spain of the Region of Murcia escape from our city, nor that the project of" Museum of Pharmacy "be stagnant for another minute," said Padín.
