CTSSP will present a motion to not let the ALAs die (Classrooms with free access to internet) (27/11/2018)

With the end of the maintenance service contract for the ALAS, we can ask the City Council to assume the service of these workers as "undefined non-fixed personnel", so that later they will be included in the 2019 public employment offer, through opposition contest.

The next month of February the term of the current contract of this important service for the citizenship expires.

WINGS currently have 10 workers, and their functions are to assist those citizens who lack sufficient computer skills, want to access the internet to perform all kinds of administrative procedures, request appointments in civil registry, medical appointments, City Hall, search of employment, curriculum, search for training, mainly youth information and care for the elderly.

These classrooms are also used by social groups such as PROJECT ABRAHAM, Cáritas, CEPAIM, Columbares, Astrade and El Kaire, where computer literacy workshops, courses for Arab women, etc. are taught.

In short, the purpose of this service is to bring connectivity to all people, thus alleviating the so-called "digital divide", or what is the same, the separation that exists between people who use the technologies of the Information and Communication as a routine part of their daily lives, and those that do not have access to them or even if they do not know how to use them.

We can not allow this crucial service to die in our society today, and we must promote it with better means, since currently the teams of most ALAs are obsolete, in addition to that we must make it known to all citizens.

We must do more and more central ALAs, in all neighborhoods and councils, to alleviate the so-called digital divide, increasingly deeper in the current times, as many families with very low economic power do not have access to internet in their homes .

The City Council, after the recent ruling of the Constitutional Court of October 31 last, has an unbeatable opportunity to recover the service and assume these workers upon the termination of the contract.

Podemos-CTSSP will take a motion to the plenary session in November to request those conditions, improvements and extensions and to foresee the cost of this service, both personnel and equipment, in the next municipal budgets of 2019.
