The 38th Cartagena Jazz Festival ends with the sounds from Africa by Richard Bona and Femi Kuti (19/11/2018)

The Cartagena Jazz Festival comes to an end this week.

He does it with a night starring the sounds that came from Africa.

The Cameroonian Richard Bona and the Nigerian Femi Kuti will go up to the tables of the New Theater Circus of Cartagena this Saturday, November 24, to put an end to this 38 edition.

Also this week will be held the concerts of Zoo Suiters, Coco Swing DJ, a tribute to Stephane Grapelli and the jazz steps workshop by Irene Bataller, for him there are few places left.

The day of Saturday, November 24, which will end the Cartagena Jazz Festival will begin with the Richard Bona concert.

The fans call it 'The African Sting', critics treat him like a professional, but it is his unique and electrifying style that connects with the audience that gives him the title of what he really is: a true musician.

The natural voice of Richard Bona, his fierce bass skills, his unique ability to compose and make arrangements in addition to his ability to learn to play any instrument simply by looking at it, position him as a rare African artist who has established an unparalleled reputation on an international platform.

Originally from Cameroon, Bona remains faithful to his roots, with African rhythms reflected in each of his seven albums;

the first three, 'Scenes from My Life', 'Reverence' and 'Munia' show their unique approach to telling stories through sounds.

Looking for inspiration in its origins, the themes of Bona's albums address international themes that reflect his desire to use music to take a stand on the problems that affect the oppressed.

He is one of the musicians who have best known how to fuse the sounds and traditions of his native Africa, the European influence and the best American jazz.

After him, it will be the turn of the eldest son of the incomparable Fela Kuti, founding father of Afro-beat.

Femi Kuti already combs gray hair but still maintains the overwhelming spirit that made him deservedly the main heir of that hypnotic style, where political protest coexists irresistible dance and festive spirit.

Funk, soul and R & B passed through the filter of the overwhelming Panafrican primitive rhythms that continue to inspire generations with their vindictive and hopeful discourse.

Kuti has taken five years to light a new job where he easily combines astonishing diversity of global musical genres, commitment, denunciation, fun and sound complexity.

A musician who does not rest and who shows in his tenth work 'One People One World' his great talent to connect reality, future and past stimulating all kinds of audiences.

Two days before, on Thursday, November 22, El Soldadito de Plomo will pay a tribute to Stephane Grappelli.

Swing Trio specializing in gipsy jazz and jazz manouche will pay tribute to one of the greats of the 1930s music and perhaps the best jazz violinist of all time, Stephane Grappelli.

This homage is born from his deepest admiration for this master of music and tries to convey the joy and ebullient energy of one of the most creative and relevant musicians in the history of jazz.

The training revisits the themes that Grappelli played next to the 'Hot Club de France' by Django Reinhardt, recognizable classics such as 'I Get a Kick out of You', 'As Time Goes By' that remind you of your last stage, some pieces that Grappelli composed for films like Bertrand Blier's 'Les Valseuses' and even swing variations of the Bach Concerto for two violins and orchestra.

The concert is a tribute to the personal style of maestro Grappelli and his legacy in contemporary jazz.

Already on Saturday in the Plaza del Icue, 'Street Jazz' with the performances of Zoot Suiters, Coco Swing Dj, and the sample of the workshop that hours before will give Irene Bataller jazz-steps.

The last day of 'Street Jazz' will begin with Zoot Suiters is the amalgamation of seven swing lovers from Murcia and Alicante, with extensive professional careers, who decide to come together to return to the root, the rhythms and sounds of the golden 20's The band offers a show of Swing, Jazz and Blues, with orchestral arrangements debtors of the most danceable jazz, encouraging the audience to participate in the party at all times.

Since their debut in 2016 they have enjoyed a spectacular reception, participating in festivals of recognized international prestige such as the Swing Art of Bordeaux or the Jazz Festival of San Javier.

The party will continue with Coco Swind Dj.

The singer, musician, dancer and composer Coco Carmona does not say no to any challenge that arises.

This year he climbs into the DJ booth to play his favorite Swing and R & B songs, styles that excite him both on the boards and on the dance floor.

Before, in the Plaza San Sebastián, Irene Bataller will teach her jazzsteps course for which there are already few places.

The course is free.
