The Danish poet Henrik Nordbrandt, special guest this Saturday of the Deslinde festival (16/11/2018)

The Danish poet Henrik Nordbrandt, considered one of the best Scandinavian poets will offer a reading of his poems on Saturday, November 17, at 8:00 pm in the Ceremonial Hall of the Consistorial Palace, with free admission.

The event will be presented by the journalist and poet José Antonio Martínez Muñoz, and translated by the poet and teacher Natalia Carbajosa.

Henrik Nordbrandt is considered one of the renovators of contemporary poetry and his work, full of reflection and conscience, is greatly influenced by the time in which the author lived in the Middle East.

He has spent much of his life in Turkey, Greece and Italy which has marked his literary style.

Born in 1945 in Copenhagen, at whose university he studied oriental languages.

In the early sixties he left his country and moved to southern Europe.

In 1966 publishes Digte (Poems), but its confirmation like poet of the Danish letters arrives in 1974 with Opbrud og uppbrott (Games and arrivals).

In 2007 he received the Literature Prize of the Nordic Council for his novel Bridges of dreams (Drømmebroer).

In Spain he has published El trelor de la mano in November (Bassarai, 2003), Nuestro amor es como Byzantium: poetic anthology (Lumen, 2003) and 84 poems (Bassarai, 2005).

His poetry stands out for a classicism that integrates exoticism and oriental culture with the theme of travel as a background.

On the itinerary appear love and loneliness treated with sensuality and melancholy.

The language mixes the quotidian of existence and the mystery of its interpretation with a taste for paradox and irony as elements that blur the drama of human existence.

His Spanish translator, Francisco Uriz, speaks of his poetry:

"The eternal themes of poetry - love, loneliness, death, nature - are very present in his work and are treated with melancholy, sensuality and irony.

And above all, with an unmistakable tone of nostalgia for something already past at the moment of existence, be it love, drunkenness or death.

But what stands out in his work is the variety of distant or close, grandiose or trivial reasons.

Nordbrandt is considered to be the most original and least Danish love poet of his generation.

In his poems, preponderant love is that of absence and transience.

The love that is already passed in the moment in which it originates or reaches its perfection and only leaves the loneliness of the self.

[...] In his poetry the trip has a great role.

Travel is an essential element of life and poetry.

There abound in his work mentions to Athens, Byzantium or Ithaca, references that are not mythical or literary but those of a traveler who has been there, who seeks and sees things that may not understand ".
