A professor of the UPCT was awarded for his communication on the economic benefit for non-professional caregivers of dependent persons (13/11/2018)

More than 66% of the dependents in Spain are looked after by their relatives.

But the panorama begins to change, since the main caregivers of people who require permanent attention "are delegates to domestic employees, people who lack most of the necessary qualifications".

This is stated in the conclusions of the communication from the professor of the Department of Legal Sciences of the UPCT, Djamil Tony Kahale Carrillo, who has received the main prize in the international congress of the Spanish Association of Health and Social Security (AESSS).

The communication, entitled "The economic benefit for care in the family environment and Social Security of non-professional caregivers" warns that economic aid to family members does not guarantee the quality of care, "not even that the amounts delivered are dedicated to the purpose , as well as that they tend to be used mainly by women carers;

what hinders their access or permanence in the world of work ".

The professor of Labor and Social Security Law points out that the economic benefit for family care is usually given, exceptionally, when the beneficiary is being looked after by his family members and when there are adequate conditions of coexistence and habitability of the dwelling.

The professor of the Faculty of Sciences of the Company considers that the directed economic benefits should not function as an incentive for the caregiver to leave the labor market, with the purpose of dedicating himself completely to taking care of the person in situation of dependency.

In Spain, family caregivers of dependents charge € 47.38 per month, € 84.49 or € 190.13, depending on whether the dependence is moderate, severe or classified as highly dependent, respectively, according to the Real Decree 1082/2017, of December 29, which determines the minimum level of protection guaranteed to the beneficiaries of the System for Autonomy and Care for Dependency.

The congress, which has addressed the "Protection of the family and social security.

Towards a new model of social and labor protection ", held in Madrid, has brought together experts in Labor Law and Social Security from various countries.

Djamil Tony Kahale Carrillo has joined this course at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena, from the Remote University of Madrid.
