The family will be the main axis of the Diabetes Week in Cartagena (06/11/2018)

One more year Cartagena joins the celebration of World Diabetes Day, on November 14, with the activities organized for the XVII Diabetes Week in Cartagena (from November 12 to 18), which this edition has as its main axis the family.

The training and information activities on this disease are organized by the Diabetes Society of Cartagena and District, SODICAR, in collaboration with the City of Cartagena.

The Councilor for Social Services, Mercedes García;

and the president of SODICAR, María Dolores García, have appeared before the media this Tuesday, November 6, to publicize the news and activities planned for this week.

This year, the motto chosen by the International Diabetes Federation, FID, has been 'Family and Diabetes', to combat with information the impact that the diagnosis of one of its members of this disease on the family may cause, as well as the need of support of the people affected.

Precisely, on the importance of awareness, awareness and information to the collectives that require the mayor of Social Services, Mercedes Garcia, said that "the City is committed to all those who, in one way or another, have difficulties and need of the collaboration of Social Services. For its part, the president of SODICAR, María Dolores García, before starting to detail the activities that will be developed in Cartagena has made a review of the disease, as well as the types that exist and what type of population is affected by she, especially to emphasize that "80 percent of diagnosed cases of type 2 diabetes could be prevented by varying diet and exercise.

The president of SODICAR has warned that diabetes will affect 600 million people in the world population by the year 2040, "hence the importance of giving visibility to this disease."

The promotion of Diabetes Week in Cartagena will be reinforced with the diffusion of it in taxis, buses and mupis, as well as with the illumination of emblematic buildings of the city of blue color on World Diabetes Day, on November 14 .

Precisely, one of the novelties of the program of activities will be a nocturnal route for the buildings illuminated of blue like: the Consistorial Palace, the General University Hospital Santa Lucia, and the General University Hospital Nuestra Señora del Rosell, among others.

PROGRAMMING OF THE WEEK OF THE DIABETES

The activities will start on Monday, November 12, with the inauguration of the Conference Cycle of experts in the field.

On Wednesday, November 14, there will be the VIII solidarity March united by diabetes, which will begin its journey in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento and end in the Regional Assembly.

With the purchase of the number will contribute to the investigation of the cure of type 1 diabetes. The donations of the number are 1 euro for children and 3 euros per adult.

As usual, there will also be an information and early detection campaign in the Hospital of Santa Lucía and another in the Juan XXIII square.
