The Galactyco Collective requests the approval of the LGTBI Equality Law (30/10/2018)

The Collective Galactyco, on behalf of the State Federation of Lesbians, Gays, Transsexuals and Bisexuals, has requested this Tuesday, October 30, the approval of the LGTBI Equality Law

The demand for the approval of the state LGTBI equality law has been claimed today in several press conferences that have taken place simultaneously in different Spanish cities, on the occasion of the day of protest Standing cities by the LGTBI Equality Law.

The Cartagena press conference was held by the president of the Galactyco Collective, José María García;

and Mar Tornero, who has also come on behalf of this group.

García thanked the words of support of Pedro Sanchez and the government in general, although he pointed out that these should be supported by concrete results, since it has been a year since the procedure was started in the Cortes and "we are at the same point of departure".

The president of the collective Galactyco has pointed out that from the state federation there is a willingness to negotiate generously with public administrations as long as "the spirit of the law is respected".

Garcia has stressed the importance of approving this law, since the rights achieved can be "and are being reversible", giving as an example the case of Brazil and the ideas of its recently elected president, Jair Bolsonaro.

He also pointed out that we are at a historic moment, since the majority of Parliament is in favor of regulating this law, "although there are some partisan interests that are prevailing when it comes to guaranteeing the dignity and security of a good part of the population. "

On the other hand, he explained that the legislative proposal merges two laws: a Trans Integra Law and another Law on LGBTI Equality that includes the free determination of gender identity, among other demands.

In addition, he explained that this law is preventive and establishes complete pedagogical tools and categories to safeguard the rights of people, something very important for LGTBI elders, who have lived a very hard time, and now have difficulties to access associations that help, since they do not have such direct access to networks or family support.

On the other hand, Mar Tornero has indicated that this law is important because it contemplates the creation of a State Agency against Discrimination for Sexual Identity, Gender Identity, Gender Expression and Sexual Characteristics, which is as independent as possible from the government;

and an Interministerial LGTBI Policy Commission to coordinate them in favor of sexual diversity, which affects all areas of life, education, health, labor and legal, among others.

Also, this law asks that people of this group be treated for their felt identity, that they study the LGTBI movement in the history subject;

that the same law be applied to transgender women against Gender Violence than to the rest and that specialized sections be established in relation to hate crimes, to attend to victims in a comprehensive manner, among other issues.
