Díaz Morcillo: «The great challenge of society is the management of information, which is almost infinite» (26/10/2018)

The great challenge of society is the management of information, which is almost infinite.

Therefore, we must know how to combine transparency, ethics, safety, utility and business, said the rector of the Polytechnic University of

Cartagena, Alejandro Díaz, at the opening of the day 'The opening of the data: an opportunity for transparency', held this Friday at the UPCT.

According to the Rector, "this opening of data is understood in the UPCT in two areas.

The first, the institutional, that promotes corporate transparency and accountability.

The second area is linked to knowledge generated, to open and collaborative research, above all, science generated with public funds ".

Díaz recalled that the UPCT website was considered in 2017 as the only one transparent according to the Transparency Review of the Commitment and Transparency Foundation.

Among other information, the Polytechnic of Cartagena made public last January its first report of Accountability, "the first of a university in the Region," said the Rector.

The website also published the report on Corporate Social Responsibility, carried out by the Chair of Culture and Directive and Business Ethics.

The Polytechnic University of Cartagena signed the Berlin Declaration and drafted its first version of the Open Access Institutional Policy in 2010. At the same time, it pointed out that the UPCT Digital Repository contains more than 7,000 documents in open access.

An increasingly open and collaborative science.

The Rector has expressed his gratitude to the Council of Transparency of the Region of Murcia and the Circle of Economy for the organization.

He also thanked the Mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón and the Minister of Transparency, Participation and Spokesperson, Noelia Arroyo for their presence and support.

"It is essential that public administrations are drivers of this opening of data," he said.

He also thanked the participation of the speakers and especially the philosopher Adela Cortina, Doctor Honoris Causa by the UPCT.

Díaz stressed that this conference will contribute "to the knowledge of everything that can be done or can be imagined to do on open data within the limits marked by ethics and safety.

And this will promote transparency, usefulness and the reputation of institutions, companies and public administration. "
