Since the announcement of the mayor of Cartagena, Ana Belén Castejón, of a 50% bonus for the construction or remodeling of hotels and tourist apartments, Cartagena will expand its seats by about 600.

The modifications in the tax ordinances proposed by Castejón last year included a 50% bonus on the Building, Installation and Works Tax (ICIO) for those entrepreneurs or owners who wanted to build or remodel their hotels and tourist apartments.

Since then, proposals for this type of establishments have been submitted for 10,654,372.08 euros in Cartagena.

Specifically, work has been licensed for the creation of a 4-star hotel and 145 rooms in Los Urrutias, for the comprehensive reform of the Los Delfines hotel in La Manga and permits are being processed for 4 tourist apartment projects in Playa Honda , La Manga Club and the streets of Duque and San Diego de Cartagena.

"The measure had the purpose of promoting the creation of more hotel beds because in Cartagena we have a very important deficit in this regard and we believe that we are fulfilling that objective, which is none other than to increase the number of accommodations to place Cartagena as preferential tourist destination and be able to compete with others in equal conditions, "said the mayor.

If we add the opening of the hostel on San Crispin Street two months ago, the municipality of Cartagena will expand its hotel beds by nearly 600 with two new hotel establishments and almost thirty tourist apartments.

Although, the hostel obtained the license before the entry into force of the bonus.

Castejón explained that "we are aware that there is still a long way to go, but we will continue working so that our municipality continues to grow and increase both in services and in jobs".
