Cartagena Piensa joins the Department of Sociology of the UMU and the College of Psychologists of the Region (25/09/2018)

The new programming of Cartagena Piensa, which will run from October to December 2018 and will have 37 workshops and 56 free activities, has incorporated from this quarter the collaboration of the Department of Sociology of the University of Murcia and the Official College of Psychologists of the Region of Murcia.

This was announced in the presentation, which took place this Tuesday, September 25 at the Consistorial Palace, the mayor of Culture, David Martínez Noguera;

who has been accompanied by the Vice-Chancellor of Research of the UPCT, Beatriz Miguel;

the Coordinator of the Department of Equality, María José Mercader;

the vice president of the RASCASA Association, Elisa Gómez-Vázquez;

the representative of Grupo Promotor Cartagena Piensa, Cari Blázquez;

and Jeisson Martínez, from the University of Murcia.

The councilor has pointed out that the seventh edition of the Cartagena Piensa program, which is committed to the democratization of philosophical thinking and scientific knowledge, is developed by the Department of Culture of the City of Cartagena in collaboration with the group promoter of Cartagena Piensa, as well as citizen volunteers, the two public universities of the region and entities and associations, and various municipal areas, highlighting the Municipal Libraries and the Equality area.

Beatriz Miguel has indicated on behalf of the UPCT that the collaboration of the academic institution with society is fundamental, since it is a public service, and has highlighted some workshops such as Mission: Rescue the Mar Menor;

The origin of earthquakes and how to measure them;

Robotics and electronics;

Microconstructions;

Torres and Puentes;

etc.

David Martínez has reported that this quarter the program includes prominent guests such as journalist and writer Joaquín Estefanía;

the writer Belén Copegui, the artist Isidoro Varcárcel;

the feminist writers Laura Freixas, Pilar Aguilar or Carmen G. de la Cueva;

professors such as the philosopher Antonio Campillo, the psychologist José Antonio Corraliza, or the sociologist Marcos Alonso.

He has also emphasized the participation of essayists and activists such as the Mexican Eduardo Guzmán;

the ecologist Luis González Reyes;

and cultural and research journalists such as Javier Morales, Ana Tudela and Antonio Delgado.

On the other hand, the mayor of Culture has pointed out that the program, in its line "Cartagena thinks with others", hosts the events related to the publication of the book Chronicles Rascasinas, which includes the 25 years of action of the Rascasa association.

With regard to this issue, its vice president, Elisa Gómez-Vázquez, has indicated that it is a commemorative book, which has been many challenges, and that has as protagonists the people of the neighborhoods.

He also pointed out that it is not a book to use, since it includes the experiences, feelings and memories of people who have gone through the association through the technique of the fish tank and nine hours of recording, as well as an important graphic collection.

The councilor has mentioned the concern for gender equality as one of the basic lines of Cartagena Piensa with the Feminist Thought Encounters;

as well as the concern for a sustainable future for our planet, with the Ecosocial Transition Meetings;

the relationship between art and thought, with the Art and Thought Encounters;

and interculturality, with Thinking about Cultural Diversity.

María José Mercader has put the accent on some activities such as the presentation of the book Un paseo por la vida by Simone de Beauvoir, by Carmen G. de la Cueva;

the workshop Lies, secrets and silences in the writing of women;

the presentation of the book Todos mas mask, diary 1995-1996, by Laura Freixas;

the talk-colloquium Atuendo para una campanadas: debates about erotic capital;

the presentation of the book Feminism or Barbarism;

and the talk-debate Prostitution to debate: regulation or abolition?

In addition, the program has included in its section Cafes with Science and Thought two debates on current social problems, which will be developed in El Soldadito de Plomo and will focus on Bullying and Cyberbullying and the debate on prostitution.

Finally, he mentioned the Philosophy Workshop for Adults, which will offer five sessions around the Philosophy for Life title and workshops for scientific and technical dissemination for children and adolescents, which are carried out in collaboration with the UPCT and the municipal libraries, as that the children's workshops of Art or the workshops of Hayat's Chocolate Factory are added.
