MC Cartagena agrees with the representatives of industry associations for their contributions to the Plan to Promote Trade (13/09/2018)

Last night, the spokesman and the deputy speaker of the MC Cartagena municipal group, José López and Isabel García, respectively, and the president of the Cartagena training, Jesús Giménez, held a working meeting with representatives of the municipality's trade associations (AJE, Cámara of Commerce, Open Shopping Center, the business association of La Aljorra and the merchants of the Santa Florentina Market).

The meeting served as a sharing of the contributions of MC to the Proximity Trade Promotion Plan, a document that the City of Cartagena must carry out in compliance with the Cartagena City Budget amendment for 2018.

Throughout the meeting the importance of the Plan for the municipality was deepened, emphasizing the need to act "with rigor, seriousness and firmness, copies are not worthwhile, since the uniqueness of Cartagena's trade must be taken into account", such and as Isabel Garcia said at the end of the meeting.

The lines of action transmitted by MC, which had the approval of the associations, contemplate, among other actions, a support plan based on sustainable urban development;

the modernization of open shopping centers, municipal markets and commercial structures;

the introduction of innovation and new technologies in commerce;

the creation of the commercial brand 'Comercio de Cartagena';

support for the entrepreneur and simplification of administrative procedures;

the professionalization of commercial activity;

economic and financial support, promotion and communication;

training, and the integration of trade and tourism with the creation of 'Cartagena Shopping City'.

In turn, these measures are specified in specific actions, such as the improvement of the Santa Florentina Market, Gisbert and Cenit Shopping Center;

the signage of commercial areas;

promote the opening of online channels;

the strengthening of the image and corporate identity;

support for entrepreneurship and access to financing, or the development of the educational program 'Trade in the school'.

Need for a serious job adapted to Cartagena

At the same time, the deputy spokesperson remarked that "there is still a lot of work to be done so that Cartagena, finally, has the Local Trade Impulse Plan that it needs, a plan that must be agreed upon by all the agents. agree to reach a consensus document that is not affected by the changes or by possible political lurches ".

More specifically, Garcia, a specialist in the subject for his postgraduate Marketing Management of Urban Centers, said that it is "a priority to redirect and strengthen the Department of Commerce, which currently only deals with promotions. It is necessary to coordinate all the services related to trade and, in the same way, the Local Development and Employment Agency must be strengthened and developed so that it becomes a useful and agile tool, grouping all the information in a single point, as well as the necessary procedure for the start-up of the business ".

In relation to the scandalous discovery that the draft of the Dynamisation Plan presented by the mayor at the meeting of the Commerce Council, convened in August, was nothing more than a plagiarism of the proceedings in Palencia, the councilor of MC has remarked that "We must have a prior analysis of the situation of trade in Cartagena.The analysis will give us a multidisciplinary, integrated and global vision of the municipality where, in addition to knowledge of the commercial sector, we will obtain information on other aspects and areas of the municipality that may be useful (tourism, culture, transport ...) It will allow us to define in the best way our positioning before the challenges and opportunities, contributing to improve the quality of our management ".

García has continued arguing that "although nothing should be done without a previous analysis, in order to facilitate the use of money available for trade in the municipal budget of 2018, we understand that for this year, some of the proposed lines, such as the creation of the trademark 'Comercio de Cartagena', the simplification of administrative procedures, the compatibility of support for trade with sustainable urban development, and it is a priority and can not be postponed immediately in San Fernando Street and the Santa Florentina Market ".

The uniqueness of Cartagena

In Cartagena, due to its special characteristics, there are several commercial areas that can not be treated in the same way.

For this reason, commercial dynamization strategies and commercial improvement actions have to be considered, differentiating between the commercial fabric of the Historic Center, the commerce of the districts and councils and the coastal areas of Cartagena.

In this way, the particularities of each one would be respected, designing a balanced and complementary commercial structure.

It is necessary to find the specific and personalized development of each area, using the characteristics that mark the personality of each area and taking advantage of the strengths and opportunities of each one.
