The PP requests the Ministry of Culture that Cartagena be present at the activities of the 130th anniversary of the Peral submarine (10/09/2018)

The deputy of the Popular Parliamentary Group, Elena Ruiz Valderas, has filed a motion in the Regional Assembly requesting the Ministry of Culture that Cartagena be present at the activities organized in the National Library to mark the 130th anniversary of the launch of the submarine Isaac Pear tree.

In addition to the presence in the activities, the 'popular' deputy has added that from the PP we also ask that you promote the knowledge of the Submarine Pear in school manuals and advertise visits to know the history of it that is exposed in the Naval Museum from Cartagena.

Ruiz Valderas reported that this year marks the 130th anniversary of the launch of one of the greatest technological ingenuities that Spain gave to the world, thanks to talent, the application of new technologies and the entrepreneurial nature of Isaac Peral and therefore we request that The Peral Submarine, property of the Ministry of Defense, has the recognition it deserves from the State.

In this sense, he recalled the popular deputy that Isaac Peral got the first submarine electric propulsion capable of launching torpedoes and was launched on September 8, 1888, sailed by propulsion thanks to the two electric motors that installed Peral and also incorporated a tube torpedo launchers, periscope, and a sophisticated "depth apparatus", which allowed the submarine to navigate in immersion to the predetermined course.

However, explained Ruiz Valderas, the current authorities rejected the project to further frustrate its inventor and many citizens and scientists of the time, was also canceled by the Navy in late 1890, and was given the order of scrapping of the submarine that was left in the Arsenal de la Carraca.

For this reason, the 'popular' leader, Cartagena, has not only claimed his mortal remains that are deposited in the cemetery of Los Remedios, but also those of the Peral submarine and in 1914, the mayor of Cartagena, Miguel Tobal, asked the Government that the submarine was conserved and sent to the city, thus avoiding that a Royal Order was dismantled to scrap it.

On November 27, 1929 the submarine arrived at the Arsenal of Cartagena, thanks to the insistence of Pedro Mercader, Captain General of the Maritime Department of Cartagena, and was thus installed on the esplanade of the Arsenal Submarine Base, later in 1965 and being mayor Federico Trillo-Figueroa, the Navy gave it to the city and was exposed in the esplanade of the Heroes of Cavite and Cuba, to be admired by its citizens.

Today 130 years later, said the leader 'popular' we must remember that the submarine was saved from scrapping thanks to the claim of a mayor and a city, and today, thanks to the good work of the Naval Museum clothed by many institutions and partners, You can visit the Peral Submarine in the Naval Museum.
